The Jewish Disabilities Network (JDN) is a collaborative initiative of Jewish agencies, organizations and synagogues working together to to create and retain a culture of inclusion within the Jewish community, foster a sense of belonging among individuals with disabilities and their families and connect them to the community. The Jewish Disabilities Network does this by working collaboratively with other organizations, synagogues, and local disabilities organizations to help increase awareness, provide opportunities for inclusion across the Jewish community, and offer Jewish oriented programs to people with disabilities of all ages and their families.

Key Contributions and Accomplishments:

  • Spearheaded a community visioning process by establishing a coalition of Jewish agencies and organizations and working collaboratively to develop a vision or model of inclusivity for the local Jewish community. The process included conducting focus groups with community members, gathering data, assessing the needs in the community, and making recommendations that would serve as the basis for creating the Jewish Disabilities Network.
  • Established JDN as a Disabilities Hub in the Jewish Community by creating disabilities-friendly community outreach programs that offered people of all abilities to participate, connect, and feel a sense of belonging in the Jewish community (i.e. Jewish Holiday programs, inclusive volunteer opportunities, and social programming).
  • Established partnerships with disabilities organizations outside of the Jewish community, such as Sea Turtle Adventures and the Special Needs Advisory Council, and non-Federated Jewish agencies, such as the Florida Society of Jewish Deaf, the Friendship Circle, and YACHAD to raise awareness and reach out to Jewish families who are not affiliated to the community whatsoever.
  • Worked collaboratively with other agencies and organizations in the Jewish community on strategic Planning of Outreach Programs for families with children with disabilities and adults with disabilities and developing inclusive opportunities throughout the community so that anyone who wants to participate can do so and ensuring that programs being offered are accessible to those who want to participate.

Utilizing my strong programming and community building background, I reached out to the ever-growing Young Families cohort in the South to increase Federation’s donor base and raise awareness of Federation’s vital role in the community.

Key Contributions and Accomplishments:

  • Developed strategic direction for the area in conjunction with lay leadership that focused on recovering past donors, increasing giving levels and reaching out to new donors. Developed a strong leadership that helped raise over $780,000 for the Annual Campaign each year.
  • Successfully planned and implemented Super Sundays and volunteer led phone-a-thons that brought in about 20% of the total Campaign dollars raised each year.
  • Collaborated with Federation departments and local Jewish agencies to implement outreach programs in the area, educational lectures at gated communities and parlor meetings with political and informational speakers, and programming for young families and young professionals under the age of 45 with NextGen and the Jewish Community Center.
  • Created a successful family outreach program for Tu B’shevat at Bedners’ Farm that attracted over 100 young families in its first year and more than 300 in its second year by working collaboratively with the NextGen (Young Adults Cohort), Jewish Community Center, PJ Library, Meyer Academy Hebrew Day School, and local synagogues. The program became a flagship program for reaching out to young families and has been replicated by the South Palm Beach PJ Library program.
  • Successfully planned and implemented community Federation fundraising events, such as Golf Days, Casino Nights, and lectures in a variety of country clubs and gated communities and worked closely with leadership to develop a strategic direction for the area that focused on growth and outreach.
