As a enlisted Soldier in the military I started out as a Food Service Specialist. As I grew the respect from my superiors, I received a merit raise to Human Resource Specialist for strong attention to detail, exemplary customer service and team-player attitude. During the companies redeployment, I gained the knowledge and built a foundation for Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint. I received numerous awards including three Army Achievement Medals, 2 good conduct medals, 2 Army Commendation Medal, and 2 Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. I was also given two medals from the CSM for exceptional service and support while deployed.
As I entered this company it was on its way to deploy to Afghanistan. Being one of the senior lower enlisted Soldiers I was given the task to be in charge of four Soldiers.During this time I handled and distributed all incoming and outgoing mail.I also created and maintained computer- and paper-based filing and organization systems for records, reports and documents. I designed PowerPoint presentations for monthly divisional meetings with top-level executives. I also developed and provided ongoing tracking to my superiors. Investigated issues and problems and tried to resolve them as quickly as possible. While on deployment I was given the opportunity to become a very valuable asset to the team. I became a squad leader which allowed me to be promoted right under the Sergeant First Class in Command. I was trained on how to review records and assessed any changes that needed to be made to the records. As a Soldier in my position, I was put in charge of ordering, receiving, and distributing supplies. Towards the end I was giving full control which consisted of making schedules, doing the monthly counseling and maintaining a clean and neat work environment. I recommended program improvements, and created innovative programs and services for Soldiers as our days became longer and hotter. I served as a liaison between company commander and Soldiers regarding paperwork such as leave forms, memos, orders and awards. I also conducted charts, as well as a tracking and filing system so that the unit would be more organized. At the end of the Deployment my unit was awarded a Exceptional Medal by the Battalion Commander and Battalion Sergeant Major.
When I entered this company a mass majority was away on a Peace Mission to Haiti. I worked as part of a team to ensure that all supplies and food were distributed properly. As part of my training I learned how to maintain and coordinate executive and senior management vacation, day-to-day meeting and travel schedules. I also collaborated with other administrative team members, human resources and the finance department on special leaves and passes to ensure that everything went smoothly. I held weekly meetings to ensure and provided ongoing tracking to division-wide Soldiers and for annual government audits. I took necessary steps to meet customer needs and effectively resolve food or service issues. Recorded customer orders and repeated them back in a clear, understandable manner. Correctly received orders, processed payments and responded appropriately to guest concerns.
Upon entering this Company in November of 2004 it was in its redeployment phase. I was tasked to be trained as a Human Resource Specialist because the company was short staffed. I assisted in making sure all data was correct and properly inputed into a wide range of spread sheets. I also crafted excel documents with serial numbers of over $25 million worth of equipment. When it was time to input leave forms and pay issues into the system, I personally assured it made its way to the correct destination. I handled all travel expenses and reimbursement requests. I served as Executive Assistant to the Commander, 1st Sergeant and Operations NCOIC all of which are the highest ranking in a company setting. I created PowerPoint presentations for weekly company meetings with Section Leaders and Command Staff. During our Deployment in April 2008-July 2009, I was reintroduced to my initial field as a Food Service Specialist. I then became one of the Lead Cooks. In holding this position it was my responsibility to assist management with monthly inventory control and weekly stock ordering. Take initiative to find extra tasks when scheduled duties were completed. Maintain a neat, well groomed appearance including impeccable personal hygiene, hair restraint and minimal jewelry that met company standards. I communicated clearly and positively with co-workers and management to maintain a healthy and vibrant work environment. I almost always resolved guest complaints promptly and professionally.
