Advise students on applying for federal financial aid (to include PELL grant, student loans and work-study,) state grants, institutional and foundation scholarships.
Educate students on financial aid process and requirements for maintaining financial aid.
Explain to students the importance of taking course work that is relevant to the educational plan, completing coursework, and Satisfactory Academic Progress as required by the institution and Department of Education in relation to their financial aid.
Review Student Aid Reports for accuracy; compare Student Aid Reports against tax information and other federal forms to check for accuracy and to determine that all verification requirements are met.
Provide direction to Veteran students on the application process for Montgomery GI Bill benefits to include applying for admission, appropriate course selection, rate of pursuit, and Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Monitor Veteran benefits, through the use of the MetroSoft VA Non-Conforming Report, to remain in compliance with Department of Veteran Affairs regulations for reporting changes in enrollment.
Over ten years of clean State and Federal audits on the Veterans program.
Monitor A+ State Grant program by determining eligibility and awarding the A+ State grant to over 750 students annually.
Calculate and award Work-Study to eligible students.
Review Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) to insure institutional and federal guidelines of minimum 2.0 GPA and 67% completion rate are being met for students receiving federal funds.
Minimum 2.5 GPA is being met for A+ State Grant students.
Maintain awareness of students attempting over 150% of credit hours needed for degree.
Notify Academic Advising Office of calculation needed for "150%" students and be able to discuss with students the outcome of calculation.
Review student appeals to determine eligibility to continue receiving federal financial aid as well as notifying students of determination.
Work with Academic Advisors in relation to appropriate academic plans for students with an approved appeal.
Encourage students to seek additional assistance through the Learning Resource Center and available tutoring services.
Receive escalated telephone calls from the Information Center to aid in answering financial aid questions and give appropriate information to callers.
Guide students through application for admission, placement testing, and enrolling in classes.
Proficient in the use of NSLDS (National Student Loan Data System) to verify student eligibility to receive PELL grants and student loans, to determine students that are in default on student loans, have received a Title IV overpayment or have attended another institution.
Update and maintain student checklists on MetroSoft for financial aid awarding purposes.
Proficient in the use of FAA Online Access to access, review and correct Student Aid Reports.
Responsible for maintaining several financial aid reports such as VA non-conforming, authorization/failure, SAP, mass packaging, ISIR after award, A+ SAP, A+ repeat class report.
Assign students to A+ Student Group for use in maintaining SAP.
Access MetroSoft to apply or delete service indicators on student accounts.
Ability to adapt to quickly changing environment within the Financial Aid Office.
Maintain confidentiality of student files Ensure compliance of FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) guidelines.
