Rob Buscher is a film and media specialist who has worked in many aspects of film including production, administration, and distribution. Due in part to his biracial Japanese American heritage Robʼs expertise is Japanese and East Asian Cinema, although he has worked as a professional film programmer in a wide variety of genres. Rob is also an experienced lecturer in the field of media studies who teaches at several Philadelphia area institutions.

After a successful stint as Programming Director for the 2013 festival season, Rob was promoted to Festival Director in
June 2014. Under his leadership PAAFF has grown into the largest AAPI film festival on the East Coast and
become a visible presence in the national dialogue surrounding AAPI media representation, continuing to expand
each year. November 2017 marks his fifth festival with PAAFF and the organization's Ten Year Anniversary.
02/2013 to 06/2014
Primary duties included creative control over the film selection process for the main festival and pre-festival
program, building and maintaining relationships with various community organizations and corporate sponsors and
serving as the liaison between filmmakers and festival. Rob was able to expand pre-festival programming in 2014 to include at least one screening each month and expanded activities to include music and food

Rob teaches several courses at the Undergraduate level for which he developed the curriculum. Course titles include A
Century of Japanese Cinema: Film Culture and Society, Asian America From Coast to Coast: San Francisco and
Philadelphia, Youth Subcultures and Popular Design Aesthetics in Postwar Japan, and Fighting for Representation: The Asian American Cinema Movement. These courses utilize visual
culture, art, and film mediums as texts to study Japan and/or the Asian Diaspora in the US examining their social,
political, economic, and cultural histories. The Asian American Studies and Japanese Design Aesthetics courses involve field study trips to San Francisco and Japan respectively, whose itineraries were also planned by Rob. www.arcadia.edu.

sponsorship outreach, delegating and managing tasks amongst intern staff, and design/layout of all marketing
