Personal Information
May 16, 2015 Let me explain why I'm an excellent fit for your new grad RN program! Dear Ms. Louden-Corbett: I am extremely interested in a position in your new grad program at Highland Hospital. Last December 2014 I graduated with my BSN, and in February I fulfilled a decade-long dream to become a Registered Nurse. The mission and vision of the Alameda Health System, particularly the concepts of serving all and eliminating disparities, resonate deeply with me. I am particularly excited to work for Highland Hospital as I consider the period in my life when my husband and I were unemployed and expecting our first child. I am forever grateful to the hospital that gave me quality care and support! Regardless of one's socioeconomic status, I noticed how diligently the healthcare team served all and the ways they worked toward eliminating disparities. For such reasons, the desire to pursue a nursing career at a safety-net hospital like Highland can easily be traced to the care I received and observed as a new mother. My last two nursing school rotations, Community Health at Berkeley Food & Housing Project (BFHP) and my Med/Surg preceptorship at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC), gave me valuable opportunities to sharpen my interpersonal skills and sociocultural awareness. The emphasis at BFHP on providing service to the homeless with compassion impressed me, and I was pleased Econzi Musa, BFHP's Veterans Case Manager, recognized my compassion and enthusiasm to serve their vulnerable clients. Later, while precepting at CCRMC, I again had the pleasure of serving an at-risk population while honing my nursing skills. Like Highland, CCRMC is a safety-net hospital, so while I dedicated myself to technical skills, I also sought to empathize and carefully consider each individual's background in order to establish deeper connections and greater patient satisfaction. My professional goal is to continue serving such individuals long-term as an RN. I appreciate your consideration for a new grad RN position at Highland Hospital. Since a letter and resume can only state so much, I look forward to the opportunity to share more in person. Please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss my qualifications further. Sincerely, Carol Ayumi Hardy, BSN, RN P.S. You may reach me immediately on my cell at (408) 829-4204 if you would like to meet with me sooner. Thank you very much for your time and consideration, Ms. Louden-Corbett.
