Examining and investigating all types of Disability Insurance claims; scheduling independent medical examinations when appropriate, and analyzing all employment data in order to determine claimant's eligibility and claim duration; making eligibility determinations and informing claimants; filing workers' compensation liens when injury is work related; documenting all actions and decisions; following up on claimant's status through duration of claim; identifying and reporting any suspected fraudulent claims or activities; and responding to inquiries from claimants and the public.

Unemployment Insurance Program: Conducting unemployment insurance eligibility interviews; gathering all relevant facts through employer and other contacts and claimant's statement; interpreting and applying laws, policies, and precedent decisions consistently to individual cases; analyzing employer and claimant statements and resolving conflicts through further questioning and analysis; identifying possible false statements and fraudulent claims and reporting to the Investigation Division for possible prosecution; resolving all eligibility issues surrounding claimant's unemployed status, determining claimant's eligibility for benefits, and informing claimant and employer of decision; paying claims; documenting all findings, actions, and decisions; assisting individuals in filing Unemployment Insurance benefit claims; independently reviewing, investigating, and determining eligibility for Unemployment Insurance benefits, in accordance with laws, regulations, and policies; and informing individuals of their rights and responsibilities under the Unemployment Insurance Program.
After 5+yrs of working as a UI Rep, I was promoted to an Appeals Specialist. This entailed reviewing my colleagues decisions and overturning incorrect disqualifications/ qualifications and filing an appeal on behalf of the claimant/client.
As an appeals specialist, I also represented the State in Court for fraud cases.
After 7+yrs, i decided on a "lateral" transfer to my current position.
Interviews applicants for and recipients of one or more aid categories to assist them in the completion and clarification of the application and declaration forms upon which eligibility decisions are based; conducts such interviews in the Department of Public Social Services or in private homes, hospitals, nursing homes, and other locations outside of the Department; obtains pertinent information concerning such items as income, other financial resources, and financial obligations/debts from applicants and recipients; obtains additional information to resolve discrepancies in the applications and declarations by telephone, correspondence, or personal interviews.
Determines eligibility in accordance with procedures; dictates or records information for case records.
Interprets programs regulations and other pertinent material to applicants, recipients, and the general public.
Compute amount of grant authorized and perform other similar required computations.
Prepare and maintain other documents associated with the eligibility determining process.
On the basis of observation, or of needs expressed by applicant orally or in specified locations on the applications and declaration forms, refers all applicants and recipients who appear to need social services to designated social work staff members after completing the appropriate referral forms.
I eventually resigned from this job to accept substantially better employment with the State Of California.
The Program Services Evaluator performs duties related to the application of program rules, policies and procedures to make initial and/or continuing determinations of eligibility appropriate to the area of assignment such as AHCCCS Health Insurance, ALTCS, KidsCare, Freedom to Work and Medicare Cost Sharing Programs. Some travel may be required. Higher PSE classifications also provide supervisory and technical assistance in interpreting policies, rules and regulations for staff and customers and assists in training staff.
