Summary

I have had a very successful and rewarding 40 year career in the cheese industry. I am passionate about this industry, it is our heritage here and it has been so good to me and my family. Most recently I successfully led a 3 plant, 300 employee operation here in the Monroe, Wisconsin area. Yes, I have been at it for 40 years but, I'm not ready to retire yet. I was "restructured" from my position just recently. At this point, I do not want to relocate from the area and I realize it would be tough to land a similar sized job locally and it's corresponding compensation. I would love to find a position where I could work on coming up with process improvements and growth projects while still being involved in working with operations for continued success. Small to medium sized cheese operations would be the best fit for me I believe. I want to continue to be a driver of operational improvements. I would be happy to provide references that can vouch for my skillset and abilities.

Experience
Director of Manufacturing, 03/2002 to 01/2022
Akoustis Technologies, Inc.Huntersville, NC,
  • Trained new employees on safety protocols and company standards.
  • Worked with managers to implement company's policies and goals.
  • Adhered to applicable regulations, policies and procedures for safety and environmental compliance.
  • Reviewed operations and conferred with plant operations staff to resolve production and processing problems.
  • Collaborated with Marketing and Customers to design new products or modifications to existing products.
  • Identified and solved complex problems that impacted management and business direction.
  • Achieved maximum performance across safety, maintenance, and production metrics.
  • Set minimum standards and provided technical guidance and support for design, installation, operation and maintenance of mechanical systems used in manufacturing process.
  • Enhanced customer satisfaction ratings by resolving issues efficiently. Consistently maintained 98%+ order fill rate even during the supply chain crisis.
  • Conceptualized and sought buy in from Staff and Leadership on profit improvement projects. Presented ROI, sought approvals, worked with Vendors to finalize design, and oversaw construction of equipment. Focused on overall simplicity, reliability and ease of sanitation.
  • Utilized Acad to design and then have buit, some of my smaller projects including conveyors, tables, catch pans, extrusion tubes, tube cut-off assemblies, simple cutters and basic mechanical improvements.
  • Mechanized bulk product handling and processing to allow a doubling of capacity over time. This growth was only possible due to converting the plants from a very manual operation to mechanization and automation. This also very much improved quality.
  • Took into consideration long range sales and business plans, when conceptualizing new equipment projects and plant layouts.
  • Implemented cost-control programs such as waste and giveaway reduction. Operation wide giveaway was cut in half over the last few years with December being a record low. Giveaway is a major issue with cheese manufacturers especially those doing retail sized packages.
Sales Manager, 01/1997 to 01/2002
CelesticaSanta Clara, CA,
  • Maintained professional network of potential clients and business opportunities.
  • Created and finalized quotes to complete deals between company, vendors and customers. Presented line layouts to customers, ensuring the designs will meet their needs.
  • Utilized Acad to put together plant layouts for Customers. Most projects involved automated cheese cutting, slicing and packaging lines.
  • Jones Automation Inc was a small company that designed and built highly custom machines and complete lines primarily serving the cheese industry. Here I got involved in doing the actual machine component design work and of course line layouts.
Plant Manager, 09/1981 to 01/1997
Berry PlasticsLouisville, KY,
  • Provided work direction, resolved problems, prepared schedules and supervised operations to complete work for team of roughly 30 employees
  • Gave direction and leadership to all levels of employees and managers.
  • Promoted high-quality daily production by enforcing product standards and monitoring level of quality.
  • Planned, directed and coordinated operations for production, machinery and processing within company policies and procedures.
  • This plant produced Italian styles of cheeses.
