At that time the Albany clinic was low staff. I and another technician and a nurse ran the unit 6 days a week as we had no manager.
I would come in at 3:30am and perform all water treatment and Bicarb setup as well as set up 14 chairs. Once the patients arrived I put on and safely monitored 7 patients. Then I would take them all off and set up the next shift of 7 patients and safely monitor them. Afterwards we all stayed to clean and properly disinfect the machines and unit. This was significant learning and growing experience for me.

I was trained in dialysis in Buffalo, NY in the mid-90's by old Korean War nurses. It was a hospital based unit so we ran community patients along with IH patients. Therefore we had walk-ins mixed in with very ill in-patients.
I was crossed trained to piggy-back with a nurse to run patients up in the ICU.
I enjoyed studying Health Care Policy and wrote a paper on the development of the ESRD policy in 1972.
I also studied Hospice social work, medical social work, and women and children.
