I had the opportunity to design my graduate program which focused on Health Sciences and Mental Health. Post graduation I received more training in Addictions and Human Resources, then more recently in PTSD and trauma.
Graduated with honors.
When my husband and I began our family they were my first priority. I took time off after the birth of my second child and spent the early years at home with my four children. As they entered school I tiptoed back into the work force teaching night school, then got hired by Granite School District so I could have the same hours as my children. Raising them has been my greatest achievement.
Writing is my hobby. In 2019 I was asked by a non-profit to write a text for incarcerated youth. This was recently published, How to Become an Emotionally-Savvy Adult: A Program in Leadership. A children's book will be released soon that is geared towards sparking imagination, humor, and learning new vocabulary words, and enhancing comprehension. I also have another book that will be published in the next few months on Complex-PTSD. As I have worked with people of all ages I have seen the great suffering they have endured and the wonderful resiliency they garnered to rise above their vicissitudes. I recently began a YouTube channel and am also working on regular podcasts on the topic of trauma. I continue to take different courses to add to my knowledge base and expertise, which I use in my classes, my consultation work, and in other voluntary capacities.
Adventures in the mountains with hiking, and just being with family brings joy beyond measure. Tennis and other sports have proven to be great sources of fun for me, but that connection with nature reigns supreme when family surrounds me.
My husband and I gave six years of service to the Utah State Prison where I taught classes and offered advice to inmates. I have continued serving on the Prison Education Foundation Board since then and have helped with curriculum.
