• Organizing and delegating work assignments to the Roustabout crews to ensure safe and efficient work practices.
• Fire Team Leader – The Crane Operator will instruct and direct the fire team in the proper fire response procedures.
• As a supervisor and trainer of Roustabouts, the Crane Operator must ensure the proper training of each team member in all areas of work, including proper rigging and securing of equipment and supplies, and proper maintenance and simple repairs on the rig.
• Assist the Roustabout crew with gathering supplies and equipment for maintenance projects.
• Assist with the performance of physical activities on the rig to ensure safe, productive material storage, relocation and drilling operations.
• Safe and efficient operation of the various cranes located on the drilling rig while ensuring safe work practices and correct lifting procedures are being followed; performs pre-start and pre-operation procedures and uses proper methods and devices for making lifts and slinging loads.
• Performs inspections and uses the personnel lifting devices.
• Cleans and maintains the crane in accordance with the crane manual and preventative maintenance system; changes oil, lubricates, and changes out cables and lines; maintains log of maintenance and repairs.
• Determines the items to be back-loaded and the sequence of back-loading, and organizes material to be back-loaded; monitors equipment and procedures to ensure safe operation.
• Performs daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of the crane, notifies supervisor of any defects or malfunctions, and creates and maintains inspection records; records on the Preventative Maintenance System while maintaining current inventories of all slings and crane lifting equipment.
• Acts as helicopter loading officer when required, and monitors the safe conduct of the helideck crew.
• Performs all duties in accordance with the Permit to Work System.
• Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
• Keeps the supervisor informed of progress on assigned tasks and current conditions; prepares hand-over notes for supervisor and relief staff.
• Supervises the deck crew; coordinates and organizes their work activities and priorities.
• Trains Roustabouts in hand signals, slinging, material handling, rigging, and safety; verifies that safe and correct work practices are followed by personnel (as per Blake SG-29).
• Evaluates Roustabouts for further training and possible promotion; provides input to performance appraisals and salary actions.
• Maintains effective communication with deck crew and keeps them informed of goals, policies, and practices.
• Oversees the cleaning and maintenance of all deck areas; stores, cleans, maintains, and protects tools and equipment.
• Reports all hazardous, damaged, or worn items.
• Keeps the rig floor supplied with all required equipment.
• Operates and maintains the skimmer tank, and cleans and maintains the drains.
• Perform daily environmental inspection of facility & rig.
• Organizes equipment and materials on deck to provide adequate and safe working area.
• Participates in the Safety Training Observation Program (S.T.O.P.) along with the weekly and pre-tour safety meeting, Stop Work Authority, and Permit to Work System.
• Develops and implements Job Safety Environmental Analyses and prepares risk assessments as required.
• Acts as the leader of the deck crew emergency team in the event of a fire or other emergency; participates in drills and exercise while also identifying and communicating drilling problems and unsafe situations to the Driller.
• Ensures safe work practices in all areas of the operations the employee is involved in.
