Supervision of staff and inmates through staff.
My current duties as a Correctional Sergeant include supervision of staff to ensure proper duties and departmental objectives are met in a timely manner with only the necessary resources used as needed depending on the situation.
As a Correctional Sergeant I have the responsibilities to completed Staff scheduling of posts, vacations and to keep accountability of staff leave balances and also staff attendance.
MAP entries and reviews, review staff pay roll sheets.
Scheduling of staff training and to ensure all staff are trained.
I also have the duties of maintaining my chain of command well informed on all that may had transpired during the shift, to include staff and inmate issues, reports completed during the shift.
As a Correctional Sergeant my duties also include reviewing staff documentation, to include accountability sheet, Information reports, inmate disciplinary forms, annual leave requests and staff pay roll sheets ensuring proper completion and grammar.
Scheduling of staff training and completion of staff training.
Staff review of performances through MAP entries and meeting with staff.
During My time as a Correctional Sergeant I have become an Equal Employment opportunity Liaison, Field training Officer and also assisst with training of CARE, or any other area needed.
Which includes touring the units to ensure staff are well informed on any all the different areas that a harassment, or discrimination complaint can be filed on, how to file it and who to file it with.
I have attended and completed Supervisors Leadership Academy at COTA.
Supervision of inmates through staff is to ensure that staff are addressing inmate issues in a proper and timely manner through direct supervision and proper documentation.
Also assist staff by redirecting with proper procedures and policies to ensure that staff understand policy and procedures on how to deal with different inmate issues and proper documentation of such issues.

Accountability of fellow staff, volunteers and inmates, assuring all inmates where accounted for and at their current location to include assigned quarters, assigned job; in example Kitchen, Visitation.
As a Kitchen Officer I was also responsible for the accountability of Kitchen staff, kitchen tool, kitchen equipment and ensuring all duties and goals to include sanitation, meal and meal times were met.
Supervising inmates- As a Correctional Officer II I supervised inmates in the kitchen, visitation and other areas around the unit that needed to be completed.
During Kitchen Duties I supervised inmates to ensure proper inmate behavior, proper inmate compliance and security.
In Visitation I supervised inmate's proper behavior with visitors.
Prior to an inmate entering and leaving the visitation area inmates were searched for any unauthorized items that may be attempted to be brought into visitation, or onto the unit.
As a visitation officer I was also responsible for searching and assuring on coming visitors were in compliance and not attempting to introduce contraband onto the unit.
I would also be verifying that on coming visitor were authorized to visit through inmate file and also the Aims system.
During this time as a visitation Officer I also assisted with filing of inmate visitation documentation.
Transportation: As a correctional officer I also have performed medical transports to and from hospitals ensuring safety of the public, staff and inmate as inmate were being transported via Department vehicle, ambulance and, or via medical helicopter.
As a correctional Officer IImy duties also included the completion of information reports, inmate disciplinary reports, accountability logs of staff and equipment, inmate pay roll sheet and scheduling of inmates.

I left the Cochise County Sheriff's to attend the Arizona Police Officer Academy in Tucson, AZ, but was unable to completd due to health issues at the time and returned to work for Cochise County Sheriff's Department soon after.

As a Detention Officer for Cochise County Sherriff's department my duties included the safety of the public, staff and inmates.
This was achieved through accountability of staff and inmates by ensuring all staff that I worked alongside were secure when on duty and by accountability of all inmates by ensuring that all inmates were present by inmate counts and health and welfare checks.
As a Detention Officer I was trained in transportation of inmates that included to and from hospitals, doctor appointments and to and from court.
I was also trained as a Booking Officer, which included initial booking of inmates by entering information received form various law enforcement departments to a computer system and then sending such information to various courts for initial appearances and various court proceedings.
I was also trained on how to do proper finger printing and submitting fingerprints to the Arizona Department of Public safety database.
Other duties as a booking officer included filing of all court paper work to include sentencing and calculation of release dates both electronic and hard copy, initial classification of inmates by verifying and identifying individuals medical, physiological needs, degree of charges and criminal history.
During my time with Cochise county I attended various trainings throughout the state to include COTA academy in 2001 where I became a certified Correctional Officer, I also completed training in recognition of mental illness at the Bisbee Detention Unit were I was certified to recognize and report possible mental illnesses.
I was also trained in court testimonies, correctional investigations, self defense, CEJIS and the use of a hand held electronic stun device.
During in my time I was also able to promote to Detention Corporal were I assisted a Detention Sergeant, in the supervision of staff and inmates, evaluation of staff, Staff Training, report writing, Detention inspections and decision making depending on the situation.
Prior to becoming a Detention Corporal I also completed 40 hours training in correctional supervisor I and 40 hours of Correctional Supervisor II through ACA, Certifications available upon request.
In October of 2006 I left the Cochise County Sheriff's Department in good standings to work for the Arizona Department of Corrections for personal reasons.
