Conducts on-the-job training for staff. Serves as the ranking security officer in a specialized treatment unit. Serves as an internal security officer charged with investigative responsibilities.
Serves as a supervisor of a small organizational unit in an institution.
Serves on institution disciplinary boards and reviews disciplinary actions taken on inmates or security personnel. Organizes and conducts inspections and searches of inmates and their living and work areas.
Reviews reports of irregularities and disturbances submitted by subordinates and may determine a course of action. Prepares reports for supervisory review. Performs special security functions within an institution as assigned. Assigns living quarters and sets basic privileges.

Grades and monitors performance of inmates, utilizing the grading system established by the department. Assures that inmates have no communication with general inmate population. Investigates accidents and work related injuries to determine causes and circumstances and to recommend remedial action.
-Conducts security checks as required and reports any discrepancies through proper channels. -Provides additional security as requested based on security priorities.
-Assists Chase Team personnel when chase procedures are initiated.
-Provides traffic control, which includes, but is not limited to, monitoring speed by radar issuing citations for speeding and parking violations, and prepares documentation on vehicle accidents.
-Patrolsall perimeter compound areas as required.
- Initiates a count of offenders assigned to the Dog Pen.
-Maintains keys to the flammable storage area at the Dog Pen and are responsible for distribution and issuance of these supplies.
-Maintains accurate record of count, callouts, violations, stick-outs, etc.
-Ensures that all inmates have proper authorization for leaving his assigned area.
-Maintains a trouble-free atmosphere within his/her assigned area.
-Counsels inmates on prison related problems and refers them to the proper authorities. -Supervises housekeeping of the area, escorts prisoners to meals, performs shakedowns of his/her area and investigates suspicious activities.
-Reports any misconduct of fellow employees to immediate supervisor, using chain of command if necessary to achieve the results needed to cease the misconduct
-Use restraints, weapons, beepers, keys, etc. in accordance with institutional policies governing the use of security
-Inspects post for any maintenance or sanitation Irregularities and handles promptly either by reporting or disposing of problems depending on severity of problems and resources available.
-Checks the security of post such as but not limited to, ail gates, doors, windows, fences, locked cabinets or closets, etc before and after each shift ending, and each time required rounds are made.
-Keeps log of all important events taking place on or effecting the operation of the assigned post where applicable Passes on all pertinent information and equipment to relieving officer.
-Performs all duties in compliance with applicable ACA standards.
-Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Supervises offenders assigned to a dormitory or cell block maintaining office, establishing counts, supervising cleaning crews, and monitoring all inmate activities. Serves as a control center officer by coordinating and monitoring inmate movements, institutional counts, emergency responses, and all radio and telephone communications. Serves as a security supervisor in a specialized work area, i.e., maintenance, medical, warehouse. Conducts shakedowns for contraband material either individually or as part of a specialized team. Supervises offenders in recreation activities. Provides security for offenders engaged in treatment activities. Serves as a member of a chase team charged with apprehending escapees from the institution, or as a member of a tactical team charged with carrying out special security assignments. Writes reports as mandated by institutional and departmental regulations and submits same to supervisors. Uses force, as required, to restrain inmates, enforce institutional rules, prevent escapes, or in other situations consistent with department regulations.
My job duties as an apprentice with Buffalo Electric were to help electricians by performing duties requiring less skill. These duties included using, supplying or holding materials or tools. I have experience in using tools such as conduit benders, screwdrivers, pliers, knives, hacksaws, and wire strippers. I was responsible for cleaning the work area and equipment once the job was completed.
