As a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, independently performs a variety of routine and complex pre-transfusion and immunohematology testing in the Blood Bank to ensure patients get safe and compatible blood products. Troubleshoot technical difficulties using experience and available resources to arrive at desirable solutions.
Update and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and Standard Forms used for testing, acquisition of blood products, general supply, and equipment maintenance to reflect current and best practices. Work closely with local and regional references laboratories, hospitals and blood suppliers to manage the Blood Bank inventory and supply of Blood products.
Manage the handling performances, and reporting of legally mandated proficiency testing specimens. Validate new procedures fro technical accuracy and applicability prior to implementation. Communicate directly with patient care clinicians to discuss interpretation of test results. Perform instrument quality control and calibration as prescribed by regulations, accreditation standards, and manufacturers.
Use statistical methods to determine the acceptability of assay parameters, troubleshoot instruments, test methods and process, correcting and documenting problems as they arise. Collaborate with colleagues in the development of research of new procedures for implementation. Provide initial and refresher training to new and returning Blood Bank staff, while maintaining continuing education and demonstrating competency in the very dynamic field of Clinical Laboratory Science and Transfusion Medicine.
Independently performed wide variety of simple to complex immunohematology procedures ranging from ABO/RH to eluates and Auto Adsorptions. Performed wide variety of complex and technical and administrative clinical laboratory procedures using both manual and automated techniques, such as Immucors' Galileo and Capture, Ortho MTS, and blood irradiator.
Performed a variety of complex chemical, biological, hematological, immunologic, microscopic and bacterial tests. Experienced with all aspects of General Laboratory per Standard Operating Procedures. Knowledge of chemical, biological and mathematical principles, and laboratory instrumentation, methods and techniques. Analytical ability and judgment to relate test results to normal or pathological states to resolve technical equipment problems and interpret quality control data.
