After spending many years serving in the Youth Ministry in our local church I began feeling God's call on my life to enter into a Full-time ministry position. Due to being established in my career, I continued to run from this calling until God made it clear that this was His direction for my life. After much prayer with my wife, children, friends, and church family I surrendered to fully align my life with what God has for me and my family.
My objective is to fully devote my time to leading others to an understanding of what God has for their lives. To encourage them to daily spend time with Him and to model the example of servant-hood Christ Himself set for each of us.
Over time, I have began to feel God transitioning me from my current ministry to students, and has called me to the role of Senior Pastor. I feel the role of Senior Pastor is to unconditionally love and lead the church in a way that stimulates spiritual growth as well as encourages the congregation to immerse themselves into the ministries of the church. In order to accomplish this, it is important to deliver God inspired messages that challenge the individual to find how it personally impacts them. Once you are able to begin the process of spiritual growth among the individual, it is then more natural for them to share the same love and message of acceptance to those in the community that may be struggling to see how they too can be accepted by the Father. At this point, the Church is able to take the message and vision to a lost world.
For the past 5 years we have served at Moulton Baptist Church in Moulton, AL.
In that capacity we have seen our students transition from a house separate from the main building to a location within the walls of the church based on growth. We have also begun a Monday Night Bible Study in our home that has seen many students who are uncomfortable coming to the church building become regular attendees at this event. Our students have gone on their first youth only mission trip in our time at MBC. This event was established while at FBC Keystone and has continued with our students at MBC, partnering with our former church to make a more effective trip. As one of two full-time youth pastors in the county, I have partnered with the other to establish a community Disciple Now that has seen numbers grow from 75 the first year to almost 400 this past year.
While at MBC I have also served in the role of Children's Pastor, overseeing an already effective ministry led by a great team of volunteers. One of the programs we established was a sports ministry that includes many unchurched from our area. We play two sports, soccer and flag football, and have had approximately 400 children participate in this ministry over the past three years.
I began serving as Student Minister on August 2007 at First Baptist Church of Keystone Heights, FL. During that time I had the amazing privilege of watching our students grow not only in numbers but also in their walk with the Father. We established both “Girls Nights” and “Guys Nights” where we (Christa and I) met with the groups individually allowing them to form accountability with each other. We were encouraged to see this accountability grow from the church into the school where they were often “gently nudged” when their peers felt like they were straying from the path the Father wanted them on.
During our time on staff we saw numbers gradually grow. We helped initiate a sports program for younger children that has been
a ministry to the entire community. We also blessed began Student led Bible studies in our home as well as led Mission Trips to South Dade County in Miami where we ministered to the children in the migrant camps set up by the State of Florida. Through no glory on our own we saw God grow the students He entrusted to us in their spiritual walk. He blessed us beyond our wildest imaginations with His faithfulness during our time in that ministry.
For approximately one year, in the absence of a Senior Pastor I assumed the role of tending to the administrative side of the pastoral duties as well as filling the pulpit on Sunday mornings and evenings. It was a wonderful time of growth for me personally and solidified my passion for preaching God's Word.
Approximately two years into my ministry at FBCKH I transitioned from "Student Minister" to Minister to Families. While praying over the direction of our church, we as a staff realized we were failing to properly lead and minister to families in our congregation. Our student, children, and music ministries were thriving but we felt that we were failing to minister to the family unit. Through prayer, I agreed to assume the responsibilities of adding this title to my responsibilities. In order to accomplish this calling we began meeting with parents in both individual and corporate settings to assist them with their calling to lead their families in a Biblical manner. Through this ministry we led classes such as Financial Peace University (Dave Ramsey) and as a result saw tithing increase; The Hurried Family (Dr. Tim Kimmel), Courageous Bible Study for Men (Sherwood Baptist Church), and The Real Win (Colt McCoy and Matt Carter). We also hosted "Daddy/Daughter Date Night" and "Mommy/Son Date Night". We have taken trips as families to ballgames, movies, and simply to hang out as Christ-centered families. God truly blessed this ministry and we look forward to seeing where He leads it in the future.
In the absence of our Student Pastor my wife and I filled the role of Student Pastor. During that time we both worked full-time jobs. However, it was during this period that God revealed to us His calling on our lives to pursue full-time ministry.
