CAMP COUNSELOR
Professional Summary

I am currently a junior here at MSU. My major is Elementary Education, and I have a minor in TESOL and a focus in Language Arts. I am also involved in the Global Educators Cohort Program here at MSU, in addition to the Spartan Marching Band and State of Art (MSU's winter color guard program).

I am a very dedicated, self-motivated person, and I would love to help guide students in the college of education on their college journeys. I am a very enthusiastic person with a love for learning and teaching, and I can't wait to help others discover these same things.

Skills
  • Planning and Organization: I use a planner in my everyday life, and am constantly writing things down and making lists. Using a planner helps me to keep everything organized, and helps me keep track of everything that I need to get done, and I've developed really good planning skills from doing so.
  • Creativity: I love doing creative things, like cooking or making beaded bracelets. And I think that my love for the creative process has given me a better understanding of perspective, trying new things, or even solving a problem in more ways than one.
  • Teaching and Leadership: As a camp counselor, babysitter, and future teacher, I feel like my leadership skills have really grown in the last couple of years as I've learned more and gained more field experience. I've learned through work experience and volunteer placements to step into that teaching role, and really be a leader of a group.
  • Self-motivation: The year 2020 has taught me a lot about being self-motivated. I have realized in doing my online classes that I need to put in the work if I want to get something done right, so while I really miss in-person learning, online classes have really improved my self-motivation.
Work Experience
May 2018 - CurrentNovi, MI
Camp Counselor / City Of Novi Michigan
  • As a camp counselor, my responsibilities include leading activities that we've planned as a staff, leading regular camp procedures, and voicing safety considerations for the campers. I work alongside eight other counselors to care for a maximum of 60 campers between the ages of five and thirteen. We are all required to be CPR certified, and administer basic first-aid if needed. I really enjoy working as a camp counselor, but it's looked a bit different every summer that I've worked for the City of Novi.
  • In the summer of 2018, camp was based at a local park right on a lake. So some of our activities were water-based, and we had time for the campers to go swimming every afternoon. We were also able to take field trips every Friday, including places like the Detroit Zoo and Greenfield Village.
  • In the summer of 2019, camp was held at a local elementary school, since the park where camp would normally take place was under construction. So, we as a staff adjusted some of our procedures to better fit the space that we were in. Other than the lack of swimming time, a lot of our procedures were kept the same, including the field trips on Fridays.
  • In the summer of 2020, we were actually able to open up our summer camp to 32 campers instead of our usual 60. We collaborated with another program, and made some major adjustments to create a COVID-safe summer camp experience for our campers. Some of these adjustments included wearing masks unless we were outside and more than six feet apart, cleaning all of the equipment after every activity, and sanitizing our hands after every activity. We were able to remain open for all ten weeks that we had planned on being open with no issues.
Jan 2013 - CurrentNovi, MI
Babysitter / Self Employed
  • I have worked as a babysitter for children ages three to twelve since I was thirteen years old. In my experience, I have played games, read books, and supervised children's homework assignments, among many other activities. I have also tried to offer a positive and nurturing environment, to support the children that I worked with.
Jun 2017 - Aug 2017Novi, MI
Admin / SC Novi
  • I worked on the computer to create spreadsheets and organize data that I was given by my supervisor.
Volunteer Experience
  • In the fall of 2018, I had a service learning placement for TE 250. I was in a fourth-grade classroom at Pattengill Biotechnical Magnet School, and I was a classroom aide for two hours a week. I usually worked with small groups of kids, and we usually worked at a desk in the hallway for extra practice with math problems that they might be struggling with.
  • In February of 2020, I was on a panel of students that promoted the college of education to future MSU students who were applying for the Alumni Distinguished Scholarship (ADS). This was a really great experience, because I love the college of education and I love telling everyone about it. This also helped me practice connecting these students to any resources that they might need.
