Work History
Animal Care Technician/Floater, 09/2020 - Current
Mayo Clinic Boyd, WI,
  • Favorite part of the job are the many types of animals I worked with: rhesus macaques, owl monkeys, squirrel monkeys, rats, mice, rabbits, and pigs. I was never shy from accepting and learning the new responsibilities and level of care that came with each one.
  • Prepared the meals, performed and recorded health checks, changed cages, weaned pups, hosed down rooms; performed daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly sanitation for all my rooms according to the SOP of that room.
  • In cage wash I inspected each cage to make sure they were spotless, not damaged, no missing pieces, and that it was ready for immediate use after cleaning. I was also responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance for cage wash by making sure the ph was at the right level, tanks were drained for removal of debris, calcium build up was minimized, and reported any damages.
  • I work very well with all my coworkers no matter their background or ethnicity.
Zoo Keeper Aid at Elephant House, 05/2019 - 05/2020
Marie Galloway City, STATE,

  • Cleaned the yards and stalls by removing excrement and uneaten food. Cleaned equipment and made certain that all equipment was removed from yards and stalls before elephants were allowed access.
  • Cleaned work spaces by wiping down counters and swept floors in kitchen and hay room. Organized hay room by removing partially empty pallets and stacking excess hay bails onto other pallets to make room for future deliveries.
  • Informed zoo keepers if we noticed any health problems that the elephants may have been exhibiting. Answered phone calls and relayed messages when zoo keepers were preoccupied.
  • Learned and practiced safe working habits regarding transmittable diseases with different animals groups.
  • Acted as a Vet Tech so elephants would be more comfortable around strangers during check ups.
  • Devoted special emphasis to punctuality and worked to maintain an excellent attendance record, always arrived to work early to start immediately.
  • Additionally, I helped the Amazonian building by observing the behavior of the Titi monkeys to make sure they know their boundaries and did not interact with guests since the monkeys live in a open habitat.

  • Frequently handled all specimens to observe their physical health and behavior. Also handled them to make sure they were safe for handling during public events.
  • When a specimen was too aggressive we handled him often to make him more comfortable with people and eventually tamed.
  • During special events on campus or at a museum, I displayed Dr. Carmichael's specimens to the public in a safe, engaging, and educational atmosphere.
  • Assisted with lab studies by providing students with equipment they needed and ensuring that the animals were being handled properly and safely.
  • Cleaned and sterilized food bowls, water dishes, cages, snake hooks, and anything else that the reptiles came into contact outside of their cages.
