Title: "The Spatial and Temporal Life of Manchester Graffiti: Towards an Assemblage Approach"
This research explores what influences graffiti to be placed in certain spaces and places, but also how it changes over time through processes of removal, subcultural alterations, and weathering. To conceptualize these processes, I consider what assemblage theory offers in reimagining the complexity of them. Data was collected through a series of qualitative methods including visual ethnography, participant observation, and in-depth interviews with graffiti artists, members of the public, and city officials.
