I handled all aspects of ocean export shipments. From the time the shipper/customer calls to the closing of the file. Whether the shipper is calling to lets us know the shipment is ready or needs a rate quote. From there I arrange trucking to pick the container up. (If it is a full container load opposed to LCL) I make a booking with the steamship line and have the container delivered to whichever port it is sailing out of. I then start to gather all the necessary paperwork. Commercial invoice, packing slip, and whatever documentation is required by the country the shipment is going to. I prepare the house bill of lading and send it to the steamship line. I file the schedule B. When I receive the master bill of lading I prepare all the documents that will be sent to our agent overseas so they can prepare for the shipment to arrive. I then close out the file after the vessel has arrived and prepare a house invoice to bill the customer for our services, trucking, and ocean freight costs. I also prepare any documents that the country requires. Such as fumigation, certificate or origin, or if it is a letter of credit I arrange all the documents and bank draft according to the L/C. Some documents require legalization so I would handle those. I also track all my shipments to keep the customer updated on the whereabouts and progress of their shipment. I then send all the paperwork to our agent overseas so that they can begin the process of customs clearance and delivery to the consignee.

I started this position as an Account Manager. I managed all aspects of ocean export shipments from beginning to end, I had my own customers that I dealt with on a regular basis. I also handled all of the accounting for the company through quickbooks, which I attended a training seminar in. I handled all the accounts receivable, accounts payable, and the payroll. Because this was a new start up company I helped get the office up and running. I handled all the contracts with the office equipment and computers. As well as any service that may have been needed. I built all the e-mail addresses through the computer server.  I paid all the bills, ordered all the office equipment, and I made all the bank deposits. I also assisted the president of the company by typing letters, scheduling sales meetings, making brochures for the company. I also arranged all of his business trips and accompanied him, if necessary. In addition to managing all my own export accounts. I received a raise after working here for months. I worked overtime and came in early if need be to ensure all my tasks were up to date.

I started out as a traffic clerk so i helped the account managers prepare documentation for ocean export shipments. This is where i learned all the skills to become an account manager.  I typed packing lists, created commercial invoices, prepared house invoices, bill of ladings, certificates of origin, fumigation certificates. I helped prepare bank drafts for letter of credit, along with all the other documents that had to match what the letter of credit stated. I left this position because my boss at this company opened his own logistics company and offered me a better position at his company because he seen that I had the skills and knowledge to become an Account Manager and handle my own accounts as well as my own customers.
