How to Write a Entrepreneur Cover Letter
Before you start writing your cover letter, check out the image below to understand what information to include in each section of your letter.
In the following writing guide, you'll find more details on how to tailor your letter to your target entrepreneur role.
STEP 1
Format your cover letter’s header correctly
Every entrepreneur cover letter should include a header that follows the standard business letter format. Include the date, the recipient's name and info and a formal greeting.
Strong cover letter header example:
May 09, 2025
Mr. Jonathan Ellis, Hiring Manager
Innovative Ventures Inc.
1234 Market Street, Suite 567
San Francisco, CA 94103
Dear Mr. Ellis,
Weak cover letter header example:
Date: 99/88/7777
To whom it concern,
Jonathann Sanders
Phone: 123-555-6789
Email: entrepreneur@example.aaa
Orchid Innovations LLC
1447 Aspiration Blvd
Agile City, NY 75309
Mr. Geogre Matthews
Mangager of Human Resources
Sunflower Techonlogy Solutions
345 Integration Avenue
Innovative Town, TX 65432
PRO TIP
If you can't find the hiring manager's name, never use the generic “To Whom It May Concern.“ There are better ways to address a cover letter without a name, such as “Dear Hiring Manager.“
STEP 2
Introduce yourself in the opening paragraph
Quickly capture hiring managers' attention with an engaging first paragraph highlighting your most impressive qualifications. List skills and achievements that show you meet the key job requirements to make a solid first impression. Be professional with your words, but don't be afraid to sound genuine in your interest in the role.
Strong opening paragraph example:
As a business consultant with five years of experience in strategic planning, I am eager to embark on the challenge of becoming an entrepreneur at EverGreen Innovations. My extensive expertise in developing growth strategies has equipped me to excel in this role. Notably, I increased client revenue by 40% through innovative business solutions, demonstrating my capacity to drive profits and success.
Weak opening paragraph example:
Hey! I'm reaching out to say I'm interested in being an entrepreneur at Great Ventures. I have done some stuff in business, and I think I'd do okay with you guys. Thanks!
PRO TIP
A great way to begin your cover letter is by sharing that a current or former employee has recommended you. Approach this topic tactfully by copying our examples of referral cover letter opening paragraphs.
STEP 3
Share relevant achievements in the body paragraph
Your cover letter's body paragraph should be chock-full of relevant achievements and skills. However, avoid repeating what you said in your resume. You can also take this opportunity to show recruiters you're a great cultural fit in the company by sharing more details about who you are as a person.
Strong body paragraph example:
As an entrepreneur with a proven track record, I've driven business growth by launching ventures that achieved a 60% increase in revenue within their first year. My strategic planning and innovative problem-solving skills were pivotal in tackling market competition, leading to a 50% customer base expansion. Additionally, my expertise in digital marketing contributed to a remarkable rise in brand visibility. I look forward to leveraging these skills to further fuel your company's success.
Weak body paragraph example:
I need a role in entrepreneurship because I really want a job in that area. My background isn't magical or filled with awards. I'm still figuring out some things. I have a bit of interest in starting stuff but haven't launched anything yet. I'm somewhat optimistic I'll learn the ropes soon.
STEP 4
Finish by encouraging next steps
The closing paragraph will be the final section of your entrepreneur cover letter. Use this section to share any final skills or qualifications you possess and state your interest in a future interview. Go for confident tone and proper sign-off before signing your name.
Strong closing paragraph:
With a proven track record of innovative thinking and strategic decision-making as key qualifications, I'm eager to bring my entrepreneurial spirit to GreenLight Innovators. I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to further discuss how I can contribute to your company's growth and success. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the possibility of interviewing with you.
Sincerely,
Morgan Reynolds
Weak closing paragraph:
I guess I might be a decent fit for the entrepreneur role, though I'm not entirely sure if my background aligns perfectly with all your needs. Anyway, if you're interested, please let me know. Otherwise, thanks for checking out my application, and good luck with your search.
Kind regards,
Alex Johnson
