Writing Your Summary Statement
If your resume is your introduction to a potential new boss, your summary statement is your introduction to the rest of your resume. The summary should briefly outline your strongest assets and give the hiring manager reasons to keep reading. Writing Your Skills Section
When writing your skills section, it’s important to highlight those relevant to the position. Like in your summary statement, the skills you list should correlate to the keywords in the job description. Exactly matching the keywords gets your resume through applicant tracking systems and provides more convincing evidence that your qualifications meet the requirements for the job. Writing Your Work History Section
Your work history section should be honest and straightforward. Put your most recent position first, and list the remainder in reverse chronological order. As you outline your responsibilities on each job, include skills not already mentioned in your summary statement or skills section. All the sections should complement one another, giving the potential employer a complete picture of your qualifications. Writing Your Education Section
In the same way that you present your work history, you’ll outline your education in reverse chronological order, listing your most recent (and highest) degree first. If you’re new to the workforce and have little experience on the job, you may include student teaching and volunteer assignments as work history.
