Traveling

I have always been passionate about traveling throughout the U.S. and world. I feel strongly that my experiences traveling has made me a better individual and educator. It helps me gain greater insight to more diverse perspectives of individuals and exposes me to "the bigger picture.". It is the best route to learn about a group's or person's culture and customs rather than read about it in a book or online. Traveling gives me a greater appreciation and understanding of how to reach my own students each year.

Additional Information

In grade school I was not a great student in or out of the classroom. I was more focused on the social aspects of school, specifically basketball. This has given me the ability to build a strong rapport with my students no matter their background. I get as sense that they feel that I have a true understanding about their behavior, success, failures, and general outlook on school. In eight years of teaching,, other than being an extremely hard workers, I feel having the ability to connect to my students has been the greatest asset. Students realize that I am not a robot, but a person that understands and cares of the well-being and future success.
