In Jessamine County Public Schools I work with 8th grade classes incorporate exciting and engaging activities to reinforce student participation and hands-on learning. I began teaching English Language Arts in resource classes as well as in collaborative settings. As an ELA teacher I developed and taught lessons on relevant children's books, young adult book, poems, movies and themes to promote student interest of all types of literature as avenue of study. I used movie clips, songs, and hands-on activities to encourage learning. I have also taught after school tutoring sessions for struggling learners as well as night school when students were unable to be in school during the day for behavior and/or safety reasons. I am now teaching Science and Social Studies in collaborative classes. I continue to teach a resource class that focuses on reading fluency, reading comprehension, and math skills. them for later use as needed.The AIMS (Alternative Interventions for Motivating Students) program is a that focuses on the behavior difficulties mostly of Special Education Students. This is a step before the pass program. I worked with School administration to develop this program at the school. I worked with students on understanding their behaviors an developing behavior contracts when they went back to their regular classes. Students were placed with me for varying amounts of time and then once they went back to their regular classes I monitored their behavior through teacher emails, quick discussions with students, as well as several daily drop in times in classes. I also taught a Social Skills class called InterAct 101. In the class the focus was teaching students how to deal with social issues, personal issues, as well as school and classwork issues. I used videos, books, discussions, and meditation activities such as deep breathing in this class. I worked with grades 6-8 on these skills. During my time with Norfolk Public Schools I worked with fourth and fifth grade classes to modify general education curriculum for special-needs students using various instructional techniques and technologies. I was also a mentor teacher to new teachers as well as a supervising teacher for Student teachers hoping to finish their degrees to obtain teaching licenses. I was the testing coordinator for all of our district and state tests for one year which included faculty training, test ordering, test scheduling, room placement, group placement, and monitoring of all testing situations during test times. I was also the lead special education teacher in our school from 2009-2015 which involved holding monthly training meetings, coordinating weekly TAT (Teacher Assistant Team) meetings with grade levels K - 5 to discuss student issues and possible Special Education referrals, reviewing all IEPs written to make sure all guidelines were covered, and attending all IEP meetings for the school as the district representative.
