Hello, my name is Gabriella Ruotolo. I recently graduated from CUNY Hunter with my BA in Elementary Education and English. I've worked with children of all ages since I was a freshman in high school through babysitting, nannying, volunteering as a girl scout leader and being a religion teacher assistant. I have a passion for teaching and helping shape young minds. My teaching approach is based off of the individuals needs of my students. I am willing to work with a culturally responsive attitude as well as create an environment of mutual respect between the students and I. I also feel that instilling a sense of self confidence at a young age is so important. When children genuinely believe that they can accomplish something, the likelihood of them having eventual success is higher. I feel that this diminishes the idea of "I tried, I failed, I won't try again". I strongly believe that if children do not feel their teacher cares for them and their education, neither will they.
Babysitting- I've worked with several families by occasionally looking after their children. I have worked with only children, twins, infants as well as with families who have 5+ children in the home. Throughout babysitting I gained a considerable amount of experience with children of all ages, and learned how to effectively look after multiple children at a time. I needed to be mindful of the needs of each child especially when it came to allergies and medicine that the children may have needed.
Girl Scout Leader - Throughout my entire experience in K-12 schooling I was part of a girl scout troop. When I graduated high school I volunteered to take on the role of girl scout leader for my younger sisters troop. During this time I would meet with the girls each week after school for their meetings to work on earning patches. I was required to teach them, come up with activities, and encourage the girls to be as creative as they could be. As the leader of the troop it was my job to cultivate and environment based off of kindness and respect for all while helping the girls learn the importance of giving back.
