I work in the Disability Processing Unit of the Seattle Regional Office. My responsibility is to adjudicate a variety of disability determination workloads for the Social Security Administration. I assist the Disability Determination State offices with complex disability decisions. My role is to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the rules and regulations affecting disability entitlement. My duty is to complete independent review of claims involving complexity, multiple issues, congressional and/or court involvement. I apply acquiescence rulings when appropriate to the claim, as well as determine if a prior decision warrants a re-opening and revision based on program policy. I interact with the field offices and claims representatives to resolve work and substantial gainful activity issues that may affect the disability onset date. Maintain caseload in the respective operating system designated by each Disability Determination Services office we assist. My priority is to identify and refer claims involving fraud to the appropriate offices. I attend and participate in weekly regional office meetings. Revise inter- component review drafts and give feedback on the proposed policy changes. I analyze, review and research daily policy instructions and postings to present them in our weekly management sessions and in the Center for Disability monthly meetings. Routinely engage in refresher courses as well as participate in any personal development training that is offered. I have been approached to be on several internal procedure and system enhancement groups, as well as to serve as a mentor for newly appointed co-workers.
