Filled Safety Engineer position within GDLS System Engineering. Responsibilities included employee training, design guidance and hazard identification per Mil Std 1472 Department of Defense Design Criteria Standard: Human Engineering on design activities. Development of hazard logs and written assessment for various projects. Development of Safety Assessment Reports per Mil Std 882, Department of Defense Standard Practice for System Safety. Use of Mil Std 1472 Deparment of Defense Design Criteria Standard Noise Limits, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS), and 29 CFR Part 1910 Occupation Safety and Health Standards in support system safety tasks. Prepare and present safety accessment for internal and customer checkpoint reviews. Investigate health hazards in fielded vehicles. Support projects as a participating member of the customers System Safety Working Group. Represented System Safety in proposal development, bid for both proposed and secured projects. Managed schedules and CDRL deliveries. Provided direction to other employees who supported projects that I was the System Safety Engineer lead. Acted as the Engineering liaison to facility health and safety, reviewed injury recordkeeping documentation and published Engineering injury data and corrective actions.
February 1987 - September 1993 - Direct Hire
Filled the facility Health and Safety representative position for all of the Michigan GDLS Satellite locations. Responsibilities included development of training materials, employee safety training and licensing, employee medical monitoring program, facility safety audits and problem closeout, industrial hygiene surveys, injury & illness recordkeeping, accident investigation, liaison with the UAW safety representative, and documented all findings in formal reports.
June 1986 - February 1987 - Contract Employee
Evaluated Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and worked with manufacturers to identify one hundred percent of the product content. This information was then rewritten into a GDLS Health and Safety Data Sheet (HSDS) for company use and compliance with the Hazard Communication Standard. Given additional responsibilities supporting the facility Health and Safety organization to include employee training and industrial hygiene surveys at both the Detroit Arsenal Tank Plant and Lima Army Tank Plant.
