As a senior intern, I not only performed numerous duties, but also trained new employees as well.
Some of my required tasks were cleaning cages, walking dogs, feeding animals, cleaning and restocking the clinic and making sure that the hospital ran as smooth as possible to allow doctors to provide clients and patients with first class care.
When I was not performing intern duties, I assisted doctors and technicians with placing catheters, drawing blood, preparing patients for surgery and even scrubbing in to assist in holding or monitoring the patient under anesthesia while under supervision.
I am well versed in veterinary programs such as cornerstone, as well as patient care, drugs and their uses and speaking with clients.
I am able to place catheters, draw blood, wrap surgical packs, take x-rays, assist in restraining and holding patients, and other various tasks.
In addition to these jobs I helped implement a training program to train new interns.
This program included levels that required tests and tasks to be completed before moving up.
This process ensured that each employee had adequate experience and drive before earning new responsibilities.
The Pre-Veterinary Society at UNC Chapel Hill is comprised of undergraduate students with an interest in veterinary medicine.
As president, I coordinate contact with veterinarians, technicians and other speakers to come speak with the club on a biweekly basis.
Additionally, I organize group volunteer events at local animal rescues and refuges.
As an animal care assistant, I worked part time during the school semester to care for a colony of spadefoot toads that were kept in the Pfennig lab facilities at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
I was responsible for daily watering and feeding of the toads as well as cleaning cages and ensuring that the lab space was clean.
