• Hello, my name is Brisa Cruz. My family is from Oaxaca, Mexico, the land of the indigenous people and beautiful culture and I had the privilege to live there and connect with my culture and people. I am 18 years old and I know I'm a very hard worker. I'm very determine and dedicated. In high school I joined the tennis team in Ferndale High school and worked really hard in after school practice and on my own time. I would go home after practice and practice even more on my own until I was very sore but even then I would keep going and working hard to better my own skills. I'm a very passionate person and will strive to be the best. I‘m a bit shy but I believe I'm also an overachiever. I've been put in many situations were I had to choose to help myself or someone else and I always go for helping others. I'm the kind of person that doesn't like to see her peers and even other people in general struggle. One time I had this classmate who didn't speak any English, I saw him struggle in class so I would go to class very early and get the class assignments ahead of time and translate them all into Spanish for my classmate to have an equal chance to succeed like the rest of the students. I'm a leader, a team leader who doesn't let anyone fall and be left behind. My junior year in high school I was elected to become the civics class president. I won for my leadership skills and humility.

MEChA

• I was a part of this club for 3 years
• I ran for a position as officer in the club and won the position of historian
• I ran twice and won both years
• We did a lot of volunteer work
• We would help out the Latin community
• Went to a lot of college conferences

FFA

• I was apart of this club for 1 year
• I was a part of the behind scenes special projects for 2 years helping out the officers that ran the meetings
• I went to WSU conferences
• I did a lot of volunteer
• I was in a program called pals were I would go to the Elementary schools and help out the students with their work

Latino leadership

• We went to a ton of college conferences and got to experience the college life and take classes on overnight stays in certain conferences
• Mentor: I would mentor middle schoolers and help them with themselves, looking for their passions and route in life
• Tutor: I would tutor middle schoolers and help them out with homework/language. I'd help them keep their grades up and learn more.
• We would plan assembly like the Martin Luther King Jr assembly and educate FHS about history
• Culture: We would show FHS our latino culture and put on assembly and sell Mexican food throughout the school letting FHS taste and see a bit of the Mexican culture and Latino culture too

Leadership 1 & 2

• We would do assembly for the high school; pep assembly, coronations, Veterans Day assembly, Orientations
• We would also do things to help out the Ferndale community; Blood drive, Food drive, Fundraisers, donations-cloths
• I also went to a lot of conferences with the leadership class and we'd learn more able leadership and how to help out our community and better the place.
• We would do a lot of volunteer work like helping older ladies with some yard work, cleaning trash around the town, helping out businesses, doing carwashes for charity

FHS Tennis

• I would go to every practice everyday no matter the weather
• I worked hours and hours to better my skills
• I worked out every day to stay in shape and went from weighing 135 lbs to 119 lbs in my season of tennis
• My first year of tennis I got put in C-team because I was a beginner and right away throughout the whole season I only lost 1 match, I'm an overachiever and was recognized and won the award for overachiever that season
