While assisting in Dr.Robinson's lab, I was required to preform DNA extractions from fecal samples collected from mice and the coeloem of moths exposed to stress. Using microbial databases to match the DNA from samples, we were able to assess changes in microbial flora in response to stress. Most animals rely on their microbial communities for various health functions. Thus, mice and moths are used as model systems to elucidate the interactions between hosts and their microbial communities. Normal bacteria in the microbiota such as Lactobacillus and Myobacterium were studied specifically.??
