Accomplishments

At Walgreen's Corporate Headquarters

  • Administrative Assistant to Senior Toiletry Buyer successfully carried out all aspects of this job which included, assisted in the implementation of items for the stores, answering phones, scheduling meetings, trips, working with outside vendors, working with other company departments Marketing, Advertising, Accounting, Executives, Stores.  
  • Promoted to Business Trainer/Associate for the SIMS Project, and in house Strategic Inventory Management System after approximately 1 year of employment.
  • As a Business Trainer/Associate I successfully worked with a hired consulting firm as well as Walgreen Employees as a team to switch the company's marketing/purchasing functions from paper to computers.  I was hired on to this team as an "expert" in the purchasing functions of the company. In this position I was to analyze, critique, test, assist in writing documentation for said function of the system being created to ensure that it met ALL functions and needs of that specific job function with ease and clarity for all employees that would be involved using that system. When the system was ready to "roll out" and replace the paper function, I then trained hundreds of fellow employees, then was on-call assisting those who needed any initial help.  I reported directly to the Senior Vice President of Purchasing/Marketing.  I was hired on for 1 system, but was valued in my roll and was asked to stay for the implementation of 2 additional systems.
  • After my time on the SIMS project was complete I was promoted to a Reorder Buyer and Merchandise Coordinator for the Toiletry Division.  
  • As a Reorder Buyer and Merchandise Coordinator - I assisted in analyzing consumer trends, set, created planograms for Walgreen stores, worked with suppliers to ensure that current items were available in our warehouses for our stores to pull from.
  • I was one of 7 people in the Purchasing Department who was chosen to be put on a path for promotion to a buyer.  At the time, this was a rare occurrence at Walgreens Corporate Headquarters, it was a tremendous compliment and success to be sought out by the Executives as such an asset to the company.  Though this would have been something that I would have absolutely enjoyed and excelled at, the time and travel commitment of this potential new role as a buyer would not have allowed me to start a family.  I chose to stay in my job position as a Reorder Buyer/ Merchandiser so that I could begin my family.

As a volunteer at Riverwood Elementary School

  • When my oldest child, now 19, was in Kindergarten I wanted to become part of his "school world", I went to a PTO meeting and knew I wanted to make a difference for this school.
  • I spearheaded the successful effort to raise money to purchase and install a new playground at Riverwood.  We raised approximately $37,000 in less than 12 months time to do this.  This task involved contacting playground manufactures, meeting with the District Administration and BOE members, and then all the parents and staff at Riverwood.  In order to raise this money outside donations were sought and secured, this task included letter writing and phone calls. 
  • I was then elected as PTO President for the coming year and alternated between PTO President and PTO President Elect (VP) from 2002 - 2011.  During that time I successfully ran all monthly meetings, which included creating an agenda, running the meeting, following Robert's Rules, working with several committees and their chair persons.  Fundraised to maintain a $30,000 - $40,000 yearly budget that was for the purpose of enhancing the classrooms and school for the children at Riverwood.
  • Though this was a volunteer role - it was a full time job.  It required self motivation, people skills, tremendous organization, multi tasking, resourcefulness, and dedication.

Riverwood Elementary School - McHenry, IL
  • Presided at all meetings of the organization, was the ex-official of all 28 PTO committees.
  • Served as PTO representative at community functions.
  • Publicly spoke to promote involvement of the PTO. 
  • Implemented a PTO newsletter to educate the Riverwood community about the PTO and what it is doing and can do for the school.
  • Appointment of committee chairpersons.
  • Prepared agenda for all meetings, ran meetings in accordance with Roberts Rules.
  • Prepared an annual budget for the coming year for approval.
  • Worked with all teachers, principals, parents, district administration, BOE members, to ensure that needs for the enhancement of Riverwood students were met.

  • Set high goals for the PTO reach in order to make Riverwood the best school - new playground, climbing wall, author visit, learning materials for individual classroom enhancement. 
  • Created spreadsheets for presentation, organization, and record keeping.
  • Wrote letters for donations, letters and emails and phone calls for general functionality of the PTO.
  • Worked closely with the building Principal and Assistant Principal to be sure all rules governing the school were followed by the PTO when conducting PTO related activities.

  • Analyze consumer trends.
  • Met with buyers, vendors, divisional manager, divisional  vice president, for the purpose of "resetting" toiletry departments for the Walgreen stores.  These meetings included analyzing current stocked items for continued or discontinued use within Walgreen stores, also included was the introduction and review of "new" upcoming items that had the potential to be added to these toiletry departments.
  • Once the selection of appropriate items was made, my role was to physically set a "prototype" department.  I then presented my prototype to all buyers, managers, and vice presidents for approval. Once approved I created a hard copy planogram that was sent out to the Walgreen stores. 
  • As a reorder buyer I worked with outside vendors to ensure that our warehouse were adequately stocked with merchandise for our stores to pull from.

  • Conducted analysis of business processes and made recommendations based on the findings.
