At Pine Rest I work in theresidential units called Maples, which is housing for teens ages 12-19. We have 8 kids in our unit now, ranging from ages 15-18. Most of them have received orders from the court saying they cannot live with their family, due to the traumas their family have inflicted on them. My job consists of watching over the kids, making meals with them, structuring free time, assisting in chores, introducing them to new hobbies, and providing any emotional support they may need. While my time here has been rather short, even on my first day there I knew I was right where I was supposed to be; caring for people directly, and offering direct support. Some other duties included:
Much like a bar, this kombucha lounge offered many different flavors of kombucha on tap. The atmosphere was wonderful, leaving people feeling very open to communication, and I found myself having many in-depth conversations with customers about their life, often times offering advice that was always greatly appreciated. Other duties included:
While this job is not in the field of psychology, I do feel there was a lot of interpersonal skills needed to allow things to move smoothly. During the summer months I managed the food truck Simpatico Coffee had at the farmers market. Often times working open to close without a break, and dealing with a very high volume of customers, I was able to maintain my upbeat and positive attitude, helping every customer with a smile. I often found myself solving customer complaints while multitasking, as well as solving disputes between other coworkers that left everyone feeling understood and happy. Other duties included:
This unique position in the health food store consisted of creating recipes using ingredients advertised by the store, then demonstrating how to cook these recipes and then sampling it out for customers. I also assisted many customers with personal shopping as well as creating menus for their personal events. Sampling out new products for customers to try, while also directly contributing to the advertisement and sales of the product. The store I primarily worked at was down the stree from a hospital and I often found myself having long converstations with friends and family of hospital patients, offering support and free flowers on occasion. Other duties included:
Camp Counselor in training at Camp Geneva from 2003 to 2007
