I have lived in Sebec/Piscataquis County with my family since 1988. I received my masters degree in social work in 2001. Although my studies always directed me toward topics of social justice and activism, my degree morphed into a career in the mental health and substance use disorder field for several years. Now, I am a social and economic justice activist. I volunteer and engage in various endeavors to improve the lives of folks in my county and alleviate the suffering from poverty. I want to be educated with my students so that we all are enriched by my course offering. I believe students can love to learn.
I directed a residential adolescent substance use disorder program. I conducted admissions interviews. I lead a team of 13 employees to provide the best treatment including but never limited to counseling, residential, educational, nutritional and aftercare planning.
I provided individual, family and group therapy in a variety of community settings. I supervised a colleague as both an intern and new therapist. I provided onsite treatment and groups in the organization's residential and community programs.
I was a lifeguard, lifeguard trainer, CPR instructor, swimming teacher and therapeutic aquatic exercise instructor. I directed the summer programming for children's day camp. I supervised a small group of at risk teens as camp counselors.
