Ported library software from the DOS platform to Macintosh using MacApp Application Framework. This software was used to update and add new MARC records in the existing cataloging database that were outdated and/or not present (for use by librarians); was responsible for designing and implementing this application for the Macintosh environment.
Extended the capability of Workspace (a client/server document management application from Documentum, Inc.) through extensive use of Apple Events by writing an external application which customized many functionalities specific to R.R. Donnelley's Production database (PDB) system. The Production database was an interactive, object-oriented, client/server production database management system supporting archival, version control, work flow management, and customer communications. Customer content in various forms and file formats could be managed from any point on the R.R. Donnelley Global Network; also ported this application to PowerPC native mode.
Worked on and helped develop several products (one a Word Processor and the other an Authoring tool for alternate keyboard devices for Macintosh) which are now commercially available. I also designed and developed a comprehensive AI application (TalkAbout) for people who are non-verbal and cannot speak, in order to assist them with day-to-day conversation as well as retrieve stories intelligently based on the current environment they are in. This product has been in the market since December of '94. My job also included assisting fellow engineers with design and programming tasks.
