I am a Research Scientist with over 13 years of experience on basic research projects with a clinical focus. I have extensive experience training and supervising staff on neuroscience projects using techniques including triple-immunofluorescence labeling, stereological quantification, confocal microscopy, dendritic spine analysis, viral vector mediated gene transfer, and electrophysiological and behavioral approaches using rodent models. I am also proficient in lab safety practices
My success in these projects is reflected by my publication record and several awards during my time at Harvard and MIT. I enjoy daily interaction with colleagues in a friendly, cooperative environment. I set up and established electrophysiology techniques in this lab to explore a rodent model of schizophrenia. I combined these methods with rodent stereotaxic techniques and immunohistochemistry to further analyze the circuitry involved in schizophrenia. During this time I trained and supervised several staff members who assisted on this project, managed lab safety practices, and I coordinated a collaboration with a local lab and with Takeda Pharmaceuticals. Success of this project is reflected in my publication record.
As part of the McGovern Institute at M.I.T., I am currently continuing my interest in stress regulation in psychiatric disorders from the perspective of mechanisms involved in PTSD. Currently, I am using viral mediated gene transfer, triple-immunofluorescence labeling, confocal microscopy, Neurolucida dendritic spine analysis, and behavioral techniques to study a rodent model of PTSD. I am training and supervising several students and staff members who assist on this project, and I manage lab safety approaches. This work thus far has resulted in several publications including a first author manuscript (in press), as well as the 7th International Congress of GRS and IGF Society Young Investigator Travel Award and the Molecular and Cellular Cognition Society Best Poster Award.
