I started out with an associate degree in office technology running an outpatient, physical therapy office then progressed to an associate degree in physical therapy and started providing patient treatment. Through my experience, I have gained knowledge in various areas of the medical field including documentation, patient treatment, navigating electronic medical records including chart audits, communication with various providers, and knowledge of charges and which are appropriate for the episode of care.
Through the online program in medical coding, I have coded over 250 outpatient reports and inpatient records. The program includes detailed coursework in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS (635+ hours) and hands-on ICD-10 coding and code set training with the AHA ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS Coding Handbook.
With my background and the coursework, I have extensive training and experience in biomedical sciences-medical terminology, advanced anatomy, advanced pathophysiology, physiology, and pharmacology.
I've also gone through annual training in HIPAA and HIM reimbursement processes.
