I am a Outside Machanic. I perform my trade work aboard Naval vessels; DDG's ,LSD's, LPO's,LHD's, Coastal patrol crafts, air craft carriers. I posses Journeyman level trade experience that allows me to perform rip-out, inspection,restoration troubleshooting, repair and re-installation. and testing of various Machine machinery to include, pumps,motors,seavalves, activators, remote operators, diesel engines, line shaft bearings, turbine generators, High pressure air compressor, and dehydrators, ship service hydraulics, and strategic weapons systems. I have extensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, structural pneumatic, hydraulic,combat, and pipping systems that allows me to ensure the accurate repair, inspection and testing of shipboard components
I am experienced in reading and utilizing blueprints, technical work documents(TWDs), task group instruction(TGIs), drawings,industrial process instructions (IPIs) and diagram/sketches to perform my trade work. I use mechanical, hydraulic,and pneumatic schematics to locate, inspect,and survey shipboard installations. I understand shipbuilding methods techniques of engineering, the construction, application, properties, operations, and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures,machinery, and devices as they relate to ship hull, mechanical, and electrical components. I read ,interpret, understand and can comprehend technical instruction and specifications in verbal/oral, written,electronic, and digital forms. I utilize my knowledge of ship repair processes and procedures to facilitate the repair, removal, and replacement of damage ship system components and mechanical and pipping systems. I am familiar with multi-repair trade work and shipyard operation.
I perform ship- checks to provide specialized trade expertise in the planning arrangement of drawing and interference problem of marine machinery systems. I provide recommendations for the resolution of the marine machinery system arrangements interference problems, to meet special needs of planned installation. I communicate my finding orally and in writing with technical accuracy to my supervisor. I have written deficiency logs and reports to address departures from specification and work that cannot be performed as written. I have made recommendations on the course for corrective action based on my knowledge of the best trade practice and passed experiences with recurring problems.
As a #2 mechanic in the outside machine shop BAE, I have lead other mechanics and apprentices in various work operations on LHGs, DDGs, CG, LSDs,class ships. I demonstrate safe working habits, proper trade practices, including good house keeping high quality workmanship, verbatim procedural compliance and timely tool and equipment turn-in. I plan my work assignment by procuring the appropriate tooling, documents(TGIs and drawings) and required material and hardware. I have an active passport, also I am able to give briefings during morning musters to raise my co-workers awarness on electrical safety,hazard identification, and fire prevention. I have interfaced with ship's force, contractors other production trades to ensure work can be performed as assigned and scheduled and to prevent delays and disruptions. I keep my supervisor aware of job progress and changes and accept accountability for the work i am assigned.
I am a subject matter expert in diesel engines, main propulsion, pump alignment, rip-out and re-installation of rudders,shaft etc. Worked on the USS Ross, Ashland Normandy, Kearsarge, Iwo Jima, most L-Decks. I used the tools of the trade daily to perform my work. I have experience in using drills, taps dies, saw, high-torques hydraulic jacks,torque wrenches, surface comparators, and numerous other trade specific tools. I am qualified in precision tools of more precise measurement,micrometers of various sizes (inside, outside and depth) dial calipers,vernier calipers, and dial indicators. I have used indicators to measure the axial thrust in the main shaft, while working with Fairbank morse on many turn key opeations
