The water quality research team used test plots of land to clear cut and monitor the decomposition rate of sample test packets of organic matter which were situated at intervals of varying distances from the clear cuts. Water quality impact was determined by the rate or organic matter breakdown, and the quantity/type of aquatic macro-invertebrates found in the processed leaf packets. My duties included:
•Preparing and weighing sample materials of organic matter to be placed in the streams for study.
•Sorting and processing the samples after designated field exposure to assess stream health.
•Operating a microscope to separate and taxonomically identify macro-invertebrate samples.
•Performing laboratory duties which included acid washing glassware and equipment maintenance.
