As a current Nursing student at the University of New England, I'm loving my clinical's at the hospitals and gaining new skills and experience every week. It's always satisfying helping patients get better after coming in with Sepsis, CHF, Aspiration Pneumonia and more. Although I have no paid work experience as an LNA, last semester I enhanced our LNA skills through taking my Nursing Fundamental class, and helping my patients on the Stoke unit At New England Rehab Facility with Activities of Daily living. During that semester, I earned my CNA license in Maine, and LNA license in NH. I currently am doing clinicals and gaining experience at Mercy Hospital in Portland Maine. Every day there, I perform and combination of LNA and RN skills, as I'm currently going to school to become a Registered Nurse. My skills include taking and assessing vitals, identifying abnormal heart and lung sounds, med administration (under a RN vision), washing the patients, turning the patients and much more. As I work towards becoming a RN, I can't stay away from the love I have of working in a hosptial.
Working as a NICU LNA would fulfill many of my current dreams. For one, I would be able to work in the hospital during the summer, before i become an RN. Although I have clinical experience through my school, I want to continue to perfect my skills to be the best nurse I can be.
Secondly, working in the NICU has been my dream since day one. My passion for caring for babies and kids has only grown over the years. If I even have a chance to experience what working in the NICU is like, it would help give me a vision into hopefully my future job as an RN. I'm willing to learn everyday through more and more experience, and would adore the opportunity of working in the NICU as an LNA.
