Professional Summary
Mindful Middle School Teacher accomplished in preparing students for the future through the use of new technologies and project based learning. Much of my focus lately is  to develop and promote interactive learning within a group environment. Encouraging students to engage in group work and to solve problems as a team will allow them to develop skills required for this digital age. Most of my students will work in jobs not even invented yet. By attending professional development in district, in state and out of state, I am able to be up-to-date on the latest curriculum and resources and implement new teaching methods.  I continue to review and upgrade my computer skills in the classroom to maximize the learning experience and convey subject material in an accessible and compelling manner.

Work History
Middle School Science Teacher, 07/2002 - Current
John Glenn School Corporation Walkerton, IN,

During the last ten years of my teaching career, I have acquired new knowledge and skills  related to English Language Learners and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Through district sponsored professional development I have become an ESL and eMINTS certified instructor.

130-150 students on average visit my classroom daily. Science activities are engaging, innovative, hands-on and enhanced with 1-1 computer technology.

9th Physical Science Teacher, 07/1993 - 05/2002
Fayetteville Public Schools City, STATE,

After working with high school students, I quickly had to acclimate myself to junior high students. I really had to work hard to keep their attention and keep them engaged.  Foldables and lecture guides helped keep their focus; however, my teaching style really needed to improve to provide meaningful instruction.  I began using graphing calculators and probes from Texas Instruments to ramp up the curriculum. Take-Home projects each nine weeks helped give students a choice in their learning and allowed their creativity and uniqueness to shine through.  The usual teacher responsibilities were part of my daily routine:

  • Instructed between 140-150 students through lectures, discussions, group activities and demonstrations.
  • Planned and supervised class projects, field trips and visits by guest speakers.
  • Prepared daily lesson plans for activities.

Science & Technology, Biology Teacher, 07/1987 - 05/1993
Little Rock Public Schools City, STATE, The infamous Little Rock Central High School is where I began my teaching career.  Fresh out of college, I began teaching 11th & 12th grade students a course called "Science and Technology." My training at the time was more geared towards life sciences. When a Biology position came open the following year, I was happy to change content areas. I learned a lot while teaching in Little Rock.  Thinking fast on my feet kept me one step ahead of my students. Building relationships with my students came easy for me and  made up for my lack of experience in teaching.
