Professional Summary

Passionate neurodivergent student and aspiring researcher and Ph.D candidate with a profound interest in Mycology, Entomology, and Phytology. I am pursuing research that explores evolutionary dynamics and ecological interactions between plants, fungi, and insects, in relation to climate and health solutions. Fascinated by the biological components that comprise the world around me, I am highly detail oriented, intellectually curious, and driven to expand my understanding of the universe through microbial research.

Work History
03/2021 to 06/2021
MICROBIOLOGY ANALYST Bd (Becton, Dickinson And Company) Louisville, CO,
  • Received training in data analysis, scientific reasoning, and scientific writing, and utilized UNIX commands and BLAST bioinformatics software to compare microbial DNA sequences against a database of DNA sequences.
  • Describe historical aspects of microorganisms' impacts on human societies.
  • Describe the characteristics of bacteria, virus, fungi, protozoa, parasites and prions as they relate to medical microbiology Compared the differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.
  • Identify the fundamentals of microbial reproduction, growth and control.
  • Explain pathogenic features of disease causing microbes.
  • Evaluate the basic immune response to infection by microbial agents.
  • Apply fundamental stains, basic staining techniques, and corresponding bacterial and fungal morphology Demonstrate the uses of the various media and metabolic/enzymatic testing protocols.
12/2018 to 06/2020
TEACHING ASSISTANT Yale University Hamden, CT,
  • Assisted Environmental Studies Department's assistant professor in educating undergraduate students and leading socratic discussions centered around Wilderness and Human Values.
  • Discuss environmental literature to stimulate critical thinking and to draw out ideas and underlying presuppositions about human interaction with the natural world and ecological repercussions.
  • Graded all homework and exams, held office hours, served as lecturer and facilitator of course learning outcomes.
01/2020 to 03/2020
LABORATORY TECHNICIAN Kaiser Permanente Lancaster, CA,
  • Explored theory and practice of molecular biology techniques used in evolutionary and ecological research.
  • Actively engaged in the careful management of lab procedures (e.g., sterile technique, proper waste disposal, experimental procedures, etc), implemented the scientific approach, and took initiatives in the experimental design, exploration, analysis, and interpretation of our results.
  • Wild Yeast Project: Surveyed the microbial biodiversity of the Scripps Coastal Reserve, collected biological samples from the Reserve and culture wild yeasts from them. Assisted in isolating individual yeast species, amplifying a ribosomal locus and analyzing its genomic sequence to identify the yeast species.
  • Spider biodiversity project: Collected spiders from the Reserve, identified, and photographed them. Extracted DNA and amplified a mitochondrial barcoding locus to identify their species, and contributed our data to the Barcode of Life Database for other researchers to use.
  • Metabolic evolution project: Explored the evolutionary divergence of the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe, in order to test how strongly conserved one of the genes in the methionine synthesis pathway is by introducing the S. Pombe version of the gene into a strain of S.Cerevisiae. Determined whether the substitution allows the methionine synthesis pathway to function.
01/2019 to 07/2019
Food Justice & Climate Action Intern SUSTAINABILITY INTERNSHIP, UC SAN DIEGO SUSTAINABILITY RESOURCE CENTER City, STATE,
  • Appointed intern for The Food Justice campaign, dedicated to increasing transparency within university administration by organizing sustainable solutions to combat local food insecurity, facilitating continuous dialogue and action in cooperative partnership, and focusing on the key, dynamic sustainable development issues.
  • Educated students and university staff on Climate Action initiatives by communicating the consequences of climate change and population displacement, questions of environmental racism, and local carbon emissions.
