I have had the opportunity to work in several different capacities while at Greater Lakes Mental Health Care (GLMHC).
I was originally hired as a Residential counselor and worked within one of the Residential Treatment programs, providing comprehensive care and skill development to those who were transitioning from state hospitals and or supported levels of care.
I have also have had the opportunity to gain about three years of case management experience while employed with GLMHC.
One year with the housing first program and then another two years with outpatient case management/ therapy team for adults who struggle with serious and persistently mentally ill.
I currently hold the position of a Mental Health Professional/Court Petitioner in our involuntary evaluation and treatment center.
I have held this position for the last four years and have had the opportunity to develop my assessment and documentation skills.
Assure effective coordination ad daily delivery of mental health services following all protocols and timelines.
Following through with required documentation such as psychosocial treatment planning and gather information during intake and assessment to help support individual reach his or her recovery goals.
As a court petitioner I am also responsible for assessing, preparing and testifying for 14 day and 90 day court hearings at least once a week.
Documents must be prepared accurately and thoroughly and within established protocols and deadlines.
I work closely with our psychiatric ARNP's and court personal to advocate for our consumer.
I work one on one with families and community providers to develop the best discharge plans as possible.
Engage in daily 1on1 counseling using evidence based practice such as motivational interviewing and solution focused and problem solving to facilitate decision making skills.
I participate in treatment team meeting and collaborate with other team members and RSN liaisons.
Through this experience I have learned crisis and de-escalation skills and I have become a strong consumer advocate.
This experience has taught me to think outside of the box when it comes to developing a plan as well as becoming creative in terms of encouraging our consumers to play a active role in their own recovery.
