Work History
Mechanical Design Engineer III (Nuclear), 04/2013 - Current
Chase Brass Shelbyville, KY,

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Designs and analyzed mechanical systems and mechanisms.
  • Analyzes mechanical requirements to determine feasibility of design.
  • Applies mechanical problem solving skills to develop creative solutions for quality products.
  • Provides technical direction to other engineers, designers, operations, technicians, and other site organizations.
  • Interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics and computer-generated reports for new design development.
  • Tests the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components and systems.
  • Supports safe, reliable operation by identifying and effectively resolving issues via corrective action and work management processes.
  • Serves on outage engineering support teams.
  • Serves on the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) teams.
  • Acts as the design authority for the site.

Accomplishments/Projects

  • Project lead on evaluating the effects of increased lithium concentration in the Reactor Coolant System. Evaluation required addressing whether the change in chemistry would have any impact, adverse or otherwise, on plant materials, equipment, or programs.
  • Developed a project to (1) upgrade from mechanical seals to dual fluid seals on two Boric Acid Transfer Pumps, and (2) design and install a seal barrier fluid support system. Full installation required supply lines for both barrier fluid and pressurized nitrogen gas. The upgrade increased pump reliability and greatly reduced boric acid leakage.
  • During the Indian Point Unit 3 Main Transformer Failure of 2015, was a major contributor in the ERO recovery efforts. Provided onsite technical support to engineering management and the NRC Special Inspection Team. Tasks included the development of fluid flow calculations, area walk downs, performing return to service system tests, providing technical input for critical decisions, and providing mechanical design reviews for engineering changes facilitating the Main Transformer replacement.
  • Team Lead of the Reactor Vessel Head Inspection Hit Team for refueling outages. Job responsibilities include acting as Indian Point Oversight for Westinghouse and General Electric teams performing inspections. The purpose of the inspection is to identify and resolve any degradation of the Reactor Vessel pressure boundary.
Mechanical Engineer, 09/2012 - 04/2013
Us Government Other Agencies And Independent Organizations Fremont, CA,

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provided mechanical design analysis and prototype development for mechanical housings and fixtures of complex lenses as requested by clients.
  • Applied mechanical problem solving skills to develop creative solutions for quality products.
  • Reviewed co-worker design drafts to provide mechanical design feedback.

Accomplishments/Projects

  • Developed a support apparatus which would allow newly fabricated lenses and housing parts to be supported and handled during assembly. The support apparatus was designed to allow three degrees of motion while supporting a lens assembly.
  • Modeled a prototype test apparatus with which newly developed prototype lenses could be accurately positioned and laser tested for quality control purposes. The apparatus was modeled in Autodesk Inventor using reference material provided by a  local Graduate Student at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Research Assistant, 09/2011 - 06/2012
Rochester General Health System Bergen, NY,

Job Duties /Responsibilities

  • Helped with research projects and provided research support for data collection as a research assistant under Professor Robert Dell.

Accomplishments/Projects

  • Designed, constructed, and tested an outdoor garden that utilizes the waste heat from geothermal energy plants to strengthen agricultural growth and prolong the growing season in Hveragerdi, Iceland. Contributed to the design and construction of the heating system which consisted of steam flowing through pipe layouts.
  •  Contributed to the design and implementation of a steam powered monitoring system utilizing Professor Dell's patented Thermoelectric Generator. A security monitoring apparatus capable of running on waste heat from a steam pipe was constructed using a web-camera, voltage controller, and thermoelectric generator as the main components.
  • Designed a control and monitoring system for a heated roof garden. The control and monitoring system was powered by waste steam from the building heating system, utilizing the aforementioned thermoelectric generator.

Laboratory Assistant Intern, 06/2011 - 08/2011
