Lab technician in the outpatient Lab. Programs that I currently am using are CPRS, vista, and vetlink. We also assist with looking up orders when doctors call, up coming appointments and calling doctors and RN for orders. Assisting patients to next appointments, calling for different services like eligibility and the patient advocate and or assisting them to make other appointments. We collect urine and transfer them into tubes and send up blood and urine as soon as we are able to. I stock the out patient Lab as needed once or twice a week. Since I have been at this job I have trained nurses and new employees from the other VA. At the end of my shift we clean and sanitize our work areas.
Started at the VA as a nursing assistant on the medical surgical unit and my job was to assist patients with their ADL's transporting to different appointments throughout the hospital. I also did vital signs, straight catherization, EKG's, blood sugars, hooking patients up to telemetry leads. I also helped patients in the bath tub/shower. I have assisted doctors in changing of wound care and changing of dressing from knee surgery or hip surgery. When needed I would perform phlebotomy when new patients would check in. I would set rooms up and get supply for the nurse. I would clean rooms and organize when needed.
