I was hired as a Fire fighter in October of 1994. I had been trained thru the New Berlin fire Department and continued my training thru Hartland. I received my EMT license in 1999 and continued my fire and Ems training thru WCTC classes. Preserved order and discipline among 50 subordinates.
I was hired as the fleet mechanic for the Hartland DPW. I was responsible for the plow trucks,sweeper, backhoe, loader, lawn mowers, brush chipper and all equipment. I was also trained in all of the department operations water, sewer, parks, streets, plowing and cemetery. I was promoted to Foreman in 2000 and remained in the position until 2017. I was in charge of budgeting for the park system streets and shop. I hired 7 summer help. I scheduled annual drug screens and hearing tests for the Department. I acquired quotes for replacement of equipment and repairs. I wrote for 2 grants to replace the sweeper and stream bank restoration and received $240,000 for both. Carried the Emergency phone on a weekly basis with the other Foreman and Operations supervisor. Was the contact point for baseball softball and football user groups for field preps and scheduling.
Started working for this family run business my Junior year of High school. Was able to take high school classes in the morning and go to work in the afternoon and receive high school credit. After graduation I was offered a full time position.
