I began my journey in the healthcare field when I was in middle school. I was a full time Candy Striper for Brooks memorial hospital. As I entered my high school years I realized healthcare was where I belonged. I entered the Boces CNA program along with my regular high school studies. In 1991 I was elected into the Health Occupational Students of America. This organization worked on furthering education in the healthcare field and carrying your knowledge over to competitions at the State and National Level. In 1992 I was awarded first place at the State skills competition granting me a spot in nationals. Nationals were held in Anaheim California with over 5000 participants with rankings of first second and third place I achieved a fourth place honorable mention. In 1993 I again took first place at the State level Skills competition granting me another place at the Tennessee National competition. Along with furthering my education through competitions I was also placed on the American Vocational Honor Society and was chosen to speak at the Graduation ceremonies. Upon completion of High school I endeavored in to college studies. While furthering my education I also worked as an aide in a skilled nursing facility. My passion for the health care field continued to grow however, an injury put a temporary stop to that but at the same time it allowed me to diversify my self in other fields. This gave me the time and ability to focus on community work, managerial skills, grant writing, advertisement and over all self improvement.
When I initially came to Fredonia Place I was already running my own businesses and really just wanted some time to be apart of the health care field which was still running through my veins. This would soon change from a part time desire to a full time one. The freedom Fredonia Place has given me to grow in not only the Nursing Department but all departments is an education and benefit I would not have received from any school. I have grown into a leader, a learner, a listener and over all a team player. I feel no matter where I am with the Fredonia Place family I will be an asset and will always give more than 150 percent to not only make sure things are done efficiently but to also make sure we retain and gain a name in the community that everyone will only speak highly of.
