For the last 10 years of my career I was the Grants and Agreements Specialist for the Sierra Cascade Province which consisted of the Modoc, Lassen and Plumas National Forests for the USDA Forest Service. In addition to being the G&A Specialist I was a warranted Contracting Officer with a million dollars authority. Prior to moving to Quincy I was the Grants and Agreements Specialist for the Alaska Region of the USDA Forest Service. During my 43 year career with the Forest Service I held a variety of administrative positions including Administrative Officer for the Chugach National Forest located in Anchorage Alaska, a Management Analyst, a Property Management Officer, a Grants and Agreements Specialist and a Contracting Officer for the Tongass National Forest. Prior to my move to Alaska I was a Resource Specialist for the Modoc National Forest.
As the only Grants and Agreements Specialist for the Sierra Cascade Province I prepared or reviewed about 150 grants and agreements for completeness, appropriateness and legality prior to delivering to the appropriate Forest Supervisor for signature. In addition I prepared about 50 grant modifications a year. None of the three Forest Supervisors would sign a grant/agreement without my OK that I had reviewed it and it was legal and ready for their signature.
I also served as a Contract Specialist with a million dollar warrant, approving every Equipment Use Agreement that was prepared for hiring equipment for use on fire suppression. I ordered equipment for use on ongoing fire emergencies.
As the Grants and Agreements Specialist for the Alaska Region I was responsible for reviewing and approving all Grants/Agreements issued by the Forests. I also wrote grants/agreements that were regional in scope.
Graduated Cum Laude even though I was also working full time while attending school.
