I have never had an internship before because I usually spend my summers working to save up money for school. However, being immunocompromised during the pandemic and stuck at home, I've decided to see this as more of an opportunity than a disadvantage. I spent 8th grade through high school fostering my love of volunteerism and activism, catalyzed by my selection as an ambassador for a youth service non-profit located in my home state of Massachusetts. During my time as an ambassador and then an alumni leader, I led many clothing drives, service events, and volunteered whenever I could. Some places/organizations that I have volunteered at/with include serving lunch to the homeless at the Salvation Army next to my high school, Cradles to Crayons, and the Special Olympics. My senior year, I led intervention training workshops at my local middle school for the Boston Celtics' Playbook Initiative. Therefore, I am no stranger to working with organizations and causes that are true to my heart, I have a lot of passion for service. I am very driven, ambitious, and hard-working. I'm also a fast learner, so if there is something that I don't know, I usually pick it up pretty quick. Although social media is not my favorite, I am very good at using it to spread awareness for important causes and human rights issues. With music being another one of my passions, I write, produce, and share my music independently on platforms that are accessible to my peers (spotify, apple music, youtube, etc.) I also think that I make a pretty good slideshow. So, these are some of the skills/aspects of myself that I am most proud of.
Kids Klub was a daytime program that kept children occupied during times that perhaps their parents had an activity planned that their child could not participate in. Parents also didn't need a reason to send their kids there; perhaps, they just wanted them to enjoy some fun activities with other kids on vacation. For this job, I usually worked with at least one other counselor and we had activities planned with the kids throughout the day. These activities included pool time, crafts, etc. We would arrive before the children to set things up and stay afterwards for cleanup. This job mostly consisted of being outdoors and a lot of physical activity. Another aspect of this job was the after Kids Klub activities meant for family time. It forced me out of my comfort zone when it came to activities like fishing, which I worked during despite it not being my cup of tea.
This was my first job ever and it was quite overwhelming for me, seeing as we were always understaffed. I did many different jobs over there and some days I worked both front-end cashier and drive-thru. The only job I did not do was line cook because I was not legally old enough.
