I have developed the ability to relate and work effectively with people, whether subordinates, co-workers, or superiors. I provide effective communication skills, including active listening. I quickly gain the trust of employees by showing them I support them and always giving them fair consideration. I am the first line supervisor for three Sergeants, three administrative personnel, and also oversee 31 Troopers in the Area over a vast geographic region. I can work with little supervision to complete assigned tasks. I am self motivated and I try to instill that work philosophy into others. I have experience in supervising civilian employees and working with the many different divisions of the Department.
I am familiar with different computer systems including Microsoft WORD and EXCEL, and the Google platform of GMAIL, Sheet, and DOCS. I type correspondence for the Area in regards to responses for assignments or training and any other correspondence that goes outside the Department. I coordinate special assignments for personnel, including Direct Patrols, Checking Details, School Checks, and other events in the Area. I complete assigned work in a timely manner and ensure accurate information is obtained for a comprehensive report.
I have worked with local cooperating agencies to develop school safety initiatives, including officer safety approaches to local schools in cases of emergency. I stay up to date on current trends of officer safety concerns locally and nationwide and strive to instill those ideas in subordinates.
When completing tasks, I follow guidelines to meet established time lines and am thorough in my writing of reports. I maintain a high level of discipline among subordinates and believe in correcting issues as they arise. I believe in progressive forms of discipline and setting standards to which employees can progress too. I maintain a strong working relationship with my supervisors, peers, and subordinates. I make myself available to personnel whether in person or on call. I keep strong relationships with cooperating agencies, local, state, and federal law enforcement and civilian groups, I believe in being part of the community and pride myself in building those community relationships. Supervise 3 Sergeants, 31 Troopers and 3 Administrative persons over a large geographic area including Amelia, Chesterfield, and Powhatan counties and the city of Colonial Heights. I ensure a strong internal control to manage data and reports that are accurate and submitted in a timely manner. Management of subordinates to cross train in administrative duty so they have the knowledge and skills to complete required tasks. Oversee the requirements of performance measures and evaluations are completed by deadlines and any deficiencies or issues are addressed. Ensure a safe work environment for all and take preventative measures to reduce risks. Review reports for content, accuracy, and timeliness. Work with administrative staff to organize and maintain a file system in compliance with Department's retention schedule. Conduct inventory of Area equipment and evidence as required. Audits of records, including summons, TREDS reports, LEAMS files, are done to ensure policy is followed. Develop contingency plans for traffic in the area. I oversee the maintenance of building and grounds, including managing the Area's spend plan budget, ensuring eVA vendors are used, appropriate purchase orders are obtained, and work is performed. Work with many local jurisdiction government entities to maintain a strong presence for the Department to provide the best and most effective services. Provide direction and guidance to all subordinates to aid them in performance of their duties. Oversee the management of 300 plus active LEAMS investigations. Provide responses to FOIA requests in compliance with existing guidelines. Respond to Discovery motions for pending court matters. Maintain COOP plan for area and ensure team members are familiar with roles. Assistant tactical field force platoon leader.
Supervise 32 Troopers and 2 Administrative persons. Coordinate the daily work schedule for all Area personnel. I schedule all special assignment requests and training for the Area. Maintain a tentative working schedule for Area personnel at least 6-12 months out. I maintain accountability of all Selective Enforcement monetary funds. Assist in the cross training of Personnel to work in the office and become familiar with administrative duties. Develop Direct Patrol, Checking Detail, and Selective Enforcement plans. Processed correspondence from the Area level to Division or outside entities. l coordinate multiple special assignments and training, whether internal with the Department or working with various outside agencies. Oversee requested work zones and ensure proper documentation is handled. I check all paperwork that comes through the office for accuracy and compliance with Department policies. I manage criminal case files through LEAMS for over 130 cases. Review accident reports through the TREDS system. I coordinate maintenance and repairs to the Area office. I maintain a high level of discipline among subordinates and correct any safety concerns that arise. I conduct regular liaison activities with cooperating agencies whether law enforcement, or civilian. I monitor all buildings and personnel for safety issues and concerns and promote a safe work area. Conduct administrative investigations in compliance with applicable laws and department policy. Serve as evidence custodian and assists in inspection of facility. Maintain working files on subordinates and work with the secretary to ensure the Area's file records are kept in compliance with File Retention Schedule. Actively participate in CARE holidays and other Department initiatives.
Supervised the VCIN control center and the SPHQ receptionist. Became a VCIN Level A operator.
Delegated work assignments among the 8 employees in the VCIN center. Coordinated the daily work schedule for the VCIN center along with work schedule of the 6 Sergeants assigned to CJIS. Supervised the Firearms Transaction Center after normal work hours and weekends. Coordinated teletypes to the appropriate Division indicating when a person with a warrant was attempting to purchase a weapon. Conducted liaison with outside agencies to issue emergency alerts, such as Amber, Endangered/Missing Children, Senior, or Law enforcement alerts. Coordinated with Information Technologies to maintain the computer system used for the emergency alert system. Maintained computer system with Johnson Controls that controlled access cards and building access for Department buildings. Managed the security camera system inside SPHQ. Coordinated the Daily Activity Report and made entries into Public Folders. Researched criminal history inquiries for eligibility to have rights restored by the Governor. Registered Sex offenders in compliance with Department policies and Code of Virginia. Developed an accountability form, similar to the Appendix C, for the Duty Sergeants to use to keep track of daily duties. Directly supervised the receptionist at SPHQ and assisted with the direction of phone calls and in person visits. Conducted safety checks of the SPHQ complex and assisted in the coordination or maintenance and repairs to the facility. Conducted administrative investigations in compliance with applicable laws and department policy. Performed background investigations on civilian employee candidates in compliance with timelines and Department policy.
Enforced all laws of the Commonwealth, investigated traffic crashes, and all criminal complaints. After 2 years I became a FTO and trained several new Troopers in the Area. I oversaw the Area Field Training Officers during times when they trained new Troopers, to provide guidance in the application of the Field Training Manual and accuracy of related reports.
I became a member of the Division I Crash Team. I was a crash team leader who oversaw the workings of other team members. Helped in coordination of special assignments in the Area, such as funeral processions, DUI checkpoints, events at the Dinwiddie Motorsports park and surrounding jurisdictions.
I assisted Area supervision in the coordination of assignments with local agencies in the Area. Conducted numerous criminal investigations, including prohibited persons trying purchase firearms assigned by supervisors as well as all other criminal matters coming to my attention.
