Assessed student reading progress regularly with the ARC examinations and observations and student math progress and with Bridges checkpoint and unit assessments as well as evaluation of student work during math centers. Consistently met my grade level reading expectations by instructing small groups multiple times per week based on their reading level, creating comprehension and phonics skills lessons, using data from assessments to determine these flexible groups, and creating literacy centers to practice priority standards. Collaborated regularly with the reading specialist to develop strategies to help students that needed additional support to progress.
Communicated weekly with parents through a classroom newsletter as well as through individual communication to parents when specific academic or emotional concerns arose.
Implemented daily morning meetings with my class which involved a greeting, sharing activity, game, and message that all students would respond to in order build community and trust among the students. Created a classroom environment where students felt safe to take risks, share ideas, and support each other.
Mentored 3 new teachers in first grade this year. which included leading our team meetings two times per week to plan curriculum, answering questions about curriculum and classroom procedures, offering guidance with parent communication, and providing ideas for literacy and math centers as well as lesson planning. Also assisted them in completing their district evaluation documents that were required. Observed one of the teachers in my grade level 3 times and conducted pre-observation and post-observation interviews to discuss her teaching strengths and help her to consider areas of instruction or classroom management to strengthen. Mentored another first grade teacher for 2 years (2016 - 2018) and supervised a high school student this past fall and winter while she was earning volunteer hours for her Capstone project. In addition to this, supervised a Bethel University student during the 2011-2012 school year when she was doing her field experience. For that student I helped her plan small group lessons, a whole class lesson, and gave feedback to help strengthen her teaching skills. Also supervised a volunteer who has been working weekly in my classroom for the past 3 years. Served on the Building Leadership Team for the past 2 years and was responsible for assisting with decision making about curriculum, school procedures and school events. Served as the Amnity teacher coordinator for 2 terms (2010-2011 and 2016-2018). in which responsible for interviewing and selecting teacher candidates from other countries to be teaching assistants at our school. Responsible for meeting with them regularly to discuss school policies and procedures and assisted them when they needed support. Served as the teacher representative on the PTSO committee for 1 year in order to maintain communication between the parent leadership and our teaching staff.
Attended a 2 day training on CLRT and AVID strategies. Also attended other professional development trainings to become more knowledgeable about CLRT. Attended a week long training for Responsive Classroom in 2010 and have since then been utilizing those routines and classroom strategies regularly in my classroom.
