Work History
08/2014 to Current
ELA/AP Teacher Washington Hospital, Inc., Mary King George, VA,
  • ELA Department Chair, 2 years: I began collaborating and scaffolding the curriculum and building scope and sequence documents before the Teaching and Learning department was formed. I continue to help further these efforts even for grade levels that I do not currently teach.
  • ELA 11th grade Team Leader (3 years): Collaborated with and shared content with team members and helped digitize content and curriculum this year for virtual/remote and hybrid learning.
  • AP English Literature Teacher: Create, maintain, and adjust curriculum based on College Board standards. I am the only one who teaches and maintains this course, therefore, I am responsible for all of the organization and scaffolding.
  • I attended two AP Summer Institutes and three tech-related conferences this past summer (Nearpod, Kami, and Google Tech Summit)
  • APS Tech Cohort member, 2 years: We test, learn, and teach new Ed Tech apps and ideas. I have taught many teachers (even outside of my own department) how to use and implement the Ed Tech apps and programs that are available to our district. I helped many teachers this year set up and maintain their digital classrooms during virtual/remote learning.
  • I take on unassigned leadership roles to support my department. For five years I have organized and maintained the ELA book storage/work room. I transformed a disorganized dumping ground into an efficient, organized storage room.
  • I took the initiative to learn about and study the SAT requirements before they were required so that I could teach the ELA department how to implement the requirements into all grade levels.
  • Last year, I created a document that scaffolded all of the SAT requirements by grade level and matched them to CCSS so that all grade levels could implement SAT prep in their courses. I also held several voluntary PD sessions to teach teacher how to use Kahn Academy to implement SAT prep.
  • I was on the Textbook Adoption Committee for 2 years (under the leadership of Cynthia Bond). We evaluated textbooks for the Social Studies and Science textbook adoptions. I attended all of the ELA textbook adoption presentations this year and helped evaluate textbooks for this year's adoption.
  • I was an official Teacher Mentor 2 years (I unofficially continue the same duties now that there is no formal program).
  • I have trained new teachers and substitutes and created lesson plans and instructions for them.
  • I am the Lead Teacher for the RLAS (Reducing LGBQT Adolescent Suicides) group at AHS.

Interim Director/Administrator Legacy Christian Academy City, STATE,
  • Our director/administrator was fired in October, and the School Board asked me to step in as Interim Director for the remainder of the year. In addition to taClaire on all of the administrative duties for the Elementary and Secondary divisions of the school that year, I continued my full-time teaching position and all other duties related to my position as Secondary lead teacher and disciplinarian. It was a very trying year, however, it was my daughter's senior year and I was very determined to make sure it was the best year the school ever experienced. One of my references, James Shields, was a teacher at that school that year and he can attest to the level of determination and competency I exhibited that year.
  • Administrative duties included but not limited to budgeting, payroll, managing (hiring and firing) staff members, all Accreditation requirements (curriculum checks, forms, documentation, and meetings in and out of state), screening of potential students for admission, teacher evaluations, and oversight of Elementary and Secondary Parent-Teacher groups.
