I have been teaching high school Earth Science for thirty-two years. As I am preparing to retire from teaching, I have decided that I would still like to contribute to secondary science education in a different capacity. Education is in a state of flux and in my opinion needs strong leaders to allow schools to adapt to the new and rigorous expectations of both teachers and students alike. Most of my teaching experience has been in a small urban school district and therefore I am very familiar with the issues that small city schools are facing today. As a parent of two sons who have been enrolled in a suburban district, I am aware of the differences in how different districts are adapting to the new regulations. Each school district has its own challenges to face. Public expectations are very high and teachers need support now more than ever.
